TLDR : Answer Summary
The best option for spending 5-6 months a year in Thailand, especially for someone married to a Thai citizen, is likely a year-long multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa. This type of visa allows for multiple entries and stays of up to 90 days at a time. It's important to stay updated on current travel restrictions and consulate operations due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation.

IF you buy an O-A (Long Stay) visa from the thai consulate in YOUR country before you wing your way here you show proof of funds by using money in your bank account there, you don't need to bank a single baht in thailand.

I'd say a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on marriage to a thai would be the easiest and give you the longest time in country (90 days at a time)

Sit tight watch for the news about the country re-opening, watch for news about the consulates in other countries opening and then look at their website to see if any of the entry requirements change when they do open this place back up to foreigners.

you're a LONG way off from coming here and with this covid-19 shit-storm no one knows what's gonna happen

ALL the thai consulates are closed at this time AND the country is closed to foreigners entering except by a case by case basis.

Are you inside thailand or outside thailand now?
