TLDR : Answer Summary
A retired person married to a Thai national has several options for residency in Thailand, primarily the Retirement Visa (O-A) and the Non-O Visa based on marriage. To stay for six months, he could initially enter on a single-entry Non-O visa, which grants 90 days. This can be extended for an additional 60 days. An alternative is to apply for a Retirement Visa, which may involve more financial requirements but simplifies paperwork in the long term. If opting for the Non-O Visa route, he can secure a one-year extension based on marriage by keeping funds in a Thai bank account. This extension allows for multiple entries into Thailand as long as he purchases a re-entry permit for each travel.

90-days Non-O married to Thai, then after entry in Thailand, park the 400,000 THB and before the 90 days run out, apply for the 1-year extension based on marriage with a Thai . .with this extension he can leave and re-enter Thailand as he wishes, he only needs to buy a re-entry permit for each trip

Personally if I could would go for retirement as it’s a lot easier on the paperwork. I guess for some people maybe first think money factor if you are ok to park 400k or 800k baht in a bank account

You are talking about an extension. To get a visa, you don't need the fund in Thailand...

Retirement or Elite are both good options.

Dave Barnard. Cost-wise best option is non-O married to Thai.

He could get a single entry Non-O visa based on marriage, come in get 90 days, then extend that by 60, that'd give him 5 months..

why not do1 year immigrant visa only has to go visa run after 90 days better than retirement visa , no money tied up in the bank then 🤔

no border runs possible right now, so the 1-year multi entry Non-O married without showing financials is out of question atm

a one year non-oa visa is a visa that allows entry multiple times, and on each entry, you can stay for one year.

At almost all Thai embassies the Non-o multiple entry (where you are stamped in for 90 days at each entry) is not being sold.

you mean a non-OA visa? There will be health insurance requirements that don’t exist with a extension of stay based on marriage
