My question is what steps do I need to take to claim my Thai citizenship and maintain dual citizenship assuming this is allowed? Sorry I am old school and need step by step instructions. I plan on retiring in less than 10 years and want all this done and to

The user seeks guidance on claiming Thai citizenship, as they were born in Bangkok to a Thai mother and an American father but have not returned in 20 years. They are looking for step-by-step instructions to obtain Thai citizenship and maintain dual citizenship, as they plan to retire in Thailand in the next decade. Comments suggest visiting the Thai consulate or embassy for official guidance, joining online groups for shared experiences, gathering necessary documents (like birth and death certificates), and potential challenges regarding dual citizenship for those born abroad.

Best bet is an agent you may laugh. But they do sure save a lot of time
You will definitely need your birth certificate amd your mom and dads death certificates. Thats pretty much all u need to prove your Thai in order to get thai citizenship. Once you have all those documents go to the Thai Embassy either in the U.S or Thailand and start the process.
Mike Maday there is no Thai Embassy in Thailand. She needs the certificates legalized by the Thai Embassy or consulate in the States and needs them co-legalized by the MfA in Bangkok
Poland and Thailand two different cases 🙂 my daughter got both passports (Polish and Thai) Poland doesn’t really care about dual citizenship, Thai do care a lot about those things 🙂 as long as your child is teenager you still can apply easily, but if you older is not that easy like you said 🙂 in worst case scenario she might be asking to even drop US passport.
I know from my Thai family, and from some Thais with kids living abroad (Australia, USA) if parents haven’t done anything until their kids are around 20 yo is much harder to get dual citizenship even though one of the parent is Thai. I hope im wrong on this, but i think you might start learning proper Thai, and some national songs to be able to get it :) like i said i hope im wrong, but i know every child born abroad parents try to get Thai passport as soon as possible. Ps. There is also a case with military service and so on.
Mare Mare if you have any relatives in Thailand reach out to them to see if you’re registered in the Blue House book (Tambien Bahn) this will make the entire process so so so much easier
