How can I switch from a DTV visa to a Non O parent/guardian visa before my baby is born in Thailand?

Hello! I've currently been on a DTV visa for over a year now. Prior I was on a ED visa. I am now 4 months pregnant. My partner is Thai so my baby will have thai citizenship. Has anyone had any experience switching to a Non O parent/guardian visa from a dtv? My current entry is valid July which is almost my due date. So trying to plan ahead for best course of action. I know I cant apply until the baby is born and birth certificate is available but with entry expiration same as my due date will I be able to apply for medical extension or fly out before hand? Says the process is about 15days is that reality or suggestion? Any advice would be great!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice on transitioning from a DTV visa to a Non O parent/guardian visa as she is pregnant and her Thai partner will help secure Thai citizenship for their baby. She is concerned about her visa expiring around her due date and asks about switching visas while managing her pregnancy and planning for the birth. Suggestions from commenters include getting legally married to simplify the visa process, considering a border run, and directly consulting with immigration offices for guidance.

Cancelling the DTV is the biggest obstacle I think

Hello I'm a foreign woman with a Thai husband and a child. It will be way easier and better for both of you to get legally married prior to the baby coming - then you immediately apply for your marriage visa. You don't need to leave the country either to switch.

The process is way easier for a female than a male.

You don't need to show any money in your bank account, you just need to show proof of the wedding (family photos) where you live and a few other paperwork requirements. You'll also need two Thai Witnesses who can state your relationship. When you apply for your visa you'll be granted 3 months first.. Then you'll go in and reapply which gives you one year.. Then you just renew yearly. Your a mother with a Thai child so the process should be straight forward.

Getting legally married is simple (especially if your in a smaller town) we registered the marriage ourself, you take your wedding photos and your two witnesses or the village elder (who was at your wedding) to the government office to get your wedding certificates.

** register your marriage where you live because for your visa paperwork you need to go and get certified marriage certificates each time for your visa **

Unless there are reasons you don't want to get legally married..

- if you are not married i read the male will need to go for a blood test to prove the child is his and therefor Thai. ( you can look into this yourself)

- you will also want to make sure he is listed on the birth certificate as the father.

- if the baby takes the father's last name this will be much easier to get passports.

- since we live in Thailand It made things easier to have our child take on his last name..

We actually gave our baby both our last names.. My last name became my daughters middle name and his last name her last name..

In Thailand they don't have middle names (but they understand foreigners do) you can't hyphenate the last names because they don't understand it here.

I highly reccomend you sort out your visa now because if any complications arise you don't want to be dealing with your visa while organizing your birth ( I was in the same boat renewing my marriage visa)

Hope that helps 🙏

Your partner or your wedded husband?

a Big difference for Immigration about being the father.

Go visit your local Immigration Office to find out what is needed to get this visa.

If you are planning on switching visa anyway just do your border run earlier

No advice on the parent visa thing, but why not fly out when you are about 6 months? You should still be ok to fly then

That way you have a couple of months to get the visa updated on the other side of the birth? Plus, you can make the border run into a sort of "last chance" vacation because once that baby comes you and your partner won't be as carefree on future trips for years to come!
