What are the options for extending a 90-day Thai visa and the implications of overstaying?

My brother sent papers to the Thai embassy in London. Stating he want to stay from

2nd September till 11th of December. Which is 101 days. He recieved a 90 day visa and was told could get an extra 30 day visa when in Thailand. When we went to Thai immigration in Korat told he could not extend. Wrong 90day visa. He could only extend if he had children or wife in Thailand.

I have 2 questions if some one can help with.

1. Immigration said he could take a visa run and get an extra 30 day tourist visa. Advised to have 20000 with him if asked

2. Faranges at immigration told him to pay 5500 for 11days as he leaves country.

I do not believe this, as an overstay will get him

an overstay stamp on his visa. Some countries will not let you in with this stamp. Also if caught without up to date visa could end up in chockee.

Which of these 2 question is ok

I thank you in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses a situation where an individual received a 90-day non-immigrant visa but encountered issues with extension due to not qualifying under specific criteria (like marriage to a Thai citizen). The user seeks advice on two main points: 1) the recommendation from immigration to perform a visa run for an additional 30 days, including financial preparation, and 2) the legitimacy of a suggested fine for overstaying by 11 days. The community provides input on the types of visas, potential implications of overstaying, and alternative solutions such as visa runs.

Cannot he convert it here to the visa status for over 65's the same as London by simply showing he qualifies for a state pension?
Ron *******
Next time he is in London Tony, he can simply apply on the basis of being over 65 and drawing a state pension. It's very easy for him and no proof of funds and seasoning etc. He simply applies on the basis of drawing a state pension.

Ron, he never brought any papers regarding pension with him. I was going to get a

muti _entry retirement visa for him

Tod, he tried marrage once and that was enough ha ha.

Believe me if he did marry the 1900baht would soon become
*****
0baht ha ha

Oh, I thought he was still married to the children's mother. Still he could get a 60 day extension based on being the father of half-thai children with just the birth certificates, the kids and 1900baht.

Otherwise he's gotta border-bounce to get a 30 day visa exempt entry.

@To**
, you know what he could do?

IF he is married to a thai or has thai children he could go to the immigration office and get a 60 day visit family extension of stay for 1900baht. He doesn't need to meet any financial requirements only show the marriage certificate or the birth certificates of the kids with his name on it.

Obviously he'd have to have his wife or kids go with him but he totally qualifies for that

Okay, he was obviously sold a 90 day Non-Immigrant visa of some type and those can't be extended unless you're married to a thai, raising kids, over 50, volunteering etc.

He can go to the border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in&out of another country and right back into thailand to get a 30 day visa exempt entry (which he could extend by another 30 days if he needed to at the immigration office for 1900baht)

I would avoid going the overstay fine and stamp route.

Tod, you got right about married to Thai and kids. Hes 73 yrs old. That is why he gave dates to Thai embassy in London so they hive him right visa. Talking to.him instead of saying he was stopping with me and my Thai wife he said he was going on holiday so.this could be the misunderstanding at the embassy

No he got 90 day visa up to 30th of November
Tod *********
can you ask him the type of visa he got? It'll be listed on the visa sticker itself under type and category. Like "Non-Imm' & "O" or something like that.

I am thinking also that he got a wrong visa (non immigrant visa) then when he tried to extend it, the immigration told him he got the wrong type and can't extend unless he has paperworks to extend it as explained by the officer. He was given an option to do a border run (get a visa exempt by crossing the border) or just pay the 11 day overstay on the day of his departure in December.. still, a photo of the visa itself would be nice.

He needs to do a border run for a 30 day visa exemtion entry. I wouldnt advise overstaying.

Maybe he got accidentally a non o immi visa valid 3 month?
Ron *******
A picture of this '90 day' visa would help.
Ron *******
I read it as if he was on overstay now. Reading it again, maybe he isn't.
Paul *********
Yeah not sure, he may have already done a +30 on his SETV.

If not the overstay till 11dec would be significantly >11 days mentioned.

1). The 'run' would be a border bounce out and back in same day on a visa exempt entry - good for 30 days.

At a land border 2 times per calender year or no limit for airport entry.

2). Intentionally overstaying for the 11 day is debatable, I would not recommend as you have an easy option above.

Costs would / could be about the same fine : border run.
Ron *******
Sounds as if he was issued a 60 day tourist visa which he thought allowed him to stay 90 days due to the enter before and until dates and is now on overstay.
Tod *********
Sounds like he was issued a single entry 90 day Non-Immigrant visa. Which you can't extend if you're not married, over 50, raising kids, volunteering etc.
