Can I obtain a 1-year Non O visa based on marriage at the Thai consulate in Savannakhet?

Good day everyone,

I am a French citizen married to a Thai spouse, based in Phuket. I recently entered the country on a 30-day visa exemption stamp, and I need to obtain a 1-year Non O visa (based on marriage) before the end of March. I have 400k THB in a Thai bank account.

Is it still possible to obtain a 1-year visa from a Thai consulate in a nearby country? I used to do that in Ho Chi Minh previously and it was really convenient, but it seems this is not possible anymore. I have checked the Thai consulate website in Savannakhet, but it appears they provide only 90-day Non O visas.

I could convert my exemption to a Non O here in Phuket and then apply for a 1-year extension, but based on my past experience, it will take longer than I can wait.

Thanks for your help; any advice is appreciated.

Cheers!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A French citizen married to a Thai spouse seeks advice on obtaining a 1-year Non O visa after entering Thailand on a 30-day visa exemption. They consider applying at a Thai consulate in Savannakhet but note the site mentions only 90-day visas. Commenters clarify that Savannakhet does issue 1-year Non O visas based on marriage, but recent requirements for proof of funds may apply, suggesting that with sufficient funds, the application should still be possible.

I think they only give you 90 day non-O in the beginning. You can renew it every year afterwards. They really don't want to give a long term visa unless you make some contribution. My wife is Thai, but staying in Thailand has never been convenient.

I calculated the cost. It's like 100 baht per day until you die.

: You can go both routes on the consulate in Savannakhet: You can get the single entry 90 days Non-Imm-O married visa fpr 2000.- THB without proof of funds, and back in Thailand then apply for the 1-year extension with the two-months seasoning of funds. Or you get the 365-days multi entry Non-Imm-O married visa for 5000.- THB, however proof of funds is needed since September 2023

It is like Brandon already suggested: Savannakhet doesn't list the ME Non-imm-O on their website, but when you approach them and ask, they will accept the application

Yes Hopefully it's still ok. I just need to have all paperwork with me. Don't want to make this trip to get a 90 days at the end :D

Even with the multi-entry Non-O you will only get 90 on arrival back in Thailand so, being Phuket based, do you want to have to border bounce to enable you to stay 15 months before extending? I think, as you have the funds already seasoned, a Non-O from the most convenient Embassy or Consulate or, even better, in country will be best for you followed by the 12 month extension.

thank you. As i m flying outside Thailand for my work regularly this not a problem actually. The problem is that I usually don’t have the time to do the 12 months extension between my travels 😞

@Thomas *****
Ok, it sounds ideal then as you'll get 90 days each entry

i have read this is not necessary.

Savannakhet does not advertise it on their website, but they do still offer the 1 year multiple entry non-O based on marriage to a Thai.

It used to not require proof of funds but recently changed to require it. If you have the funds already you should be able to apply there.

that is great news thank you. Do you know if there are other countries around thailand where it is possible to do the same? Just in case. Thanks!

I believe it's only Savannakhet now that offer the 1 year Non Imm O. HCMC and Seoul used to offer it but I think they stopped now. You can get the single entry at any local Embassys/consulates.

ok good to know thank you. Savannahketh is not the most convenient place to go from Phuket but if this is the only option i might have to go there then.
