Please can someone tell me the regulations/laws with regards to a work permit and non immigrant b visa πŸ™‚?

I am currently teaching in Thailand , I have recently received my work permit , how long should these usually be valid for or does it depend on your contract?

If I am wanting to change schools , but continue teaching (and I will do this through the same agency I have now-however I am registered by my school on my work permit) do I have to then get a new work permit and go to Laos again to apply for a new non-immigrant b visa ?

Or is it possible to switch over work permit and extend the visa without all the unnecessary hassle?

Thank you 😊

TLDR : Answer Summary
In Thailand, work permits are employer-specific, meaning if you wish to change schools while continuing to teach, you need to apply for a new work permit through your new employer. The validity of your current work permit typically depends on your contract, and you cannot transfer it to a new employer. If your visa is not marked with your current employer's name, you may not need to leave Thailand to obtain a new visa. However, if it is marked, you will have to cancel your current work permit and visa and reapply, which may involve traveling to a neighboring country like Laos.

If you have the Work Permit, take a look inside. There is your name, job prescription and place of work all in English. Yes, the work permit is only valid with the Employer who helped you to apply for this, it can not be changed to other employer, you cancel this one and with help of new employer you apply for new one. There is also a valid until date in the work permit. Extensions of Stay are also motivated and depending on your Employer, you can not switch them around. If you still inside Thailand on your original Visa and the visa is not marked with your Employers name (handwritten text or sticker next to the visa) you don't have to leave Thailand to get a new visa if you switch employers. If you visa is marked, you have start all over again and face the in your eyes unnecessary hassle.

Just curious. You just got the Work Permit and now want to change Employer. How come you want to change so fast after starting to work?
