Dear all,

My non-B visa and workpermit expires on the same day in June, I'm moving to different province from Bangkok and my new company ( school ) is preparing papers for workpermit as well as non-B visa.

What are the process, specially for transferring workpermit, in my opinion, first step is to transfer the workpermit ( there's something about cancelling and reapplying on a same day which I am not very familiar with).

Once it's done on a same day the visa stays same and safe till June, is that right?

Which makes me think I should tell my new company to do the workpermit process ASAP.

Please advise

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on transferring their work permit and visa due to changing jobs in Thailand. They need to cancel their current work permit and visa, which involves notifying their old employer, and apply for a new work permit with their new employer in a different province. There is confusion about the timing of the cancellations and the implications of overstaying. Community members clarify that the work permit has to be canceled in person, and it's essential to complete this process carefully to avoid any breaches in visa regulations.

Okay I think you're confused on how it works.

You NEED the letter of termination to cancel your current extension SO if that says April 8th then that's the date they are gonna cancel the extension on (meaning today you're on 16 days overstay and counting)?

As far as the work permit you can't cancel it by phone and as people said YOU or your employer need to go cancel it in person at the office where it was issued.

NOW as far as IF you can apply for a new extension at a new immigration office in another province on overstay (seeing as when you go cancel your extension here it'll stop on the 8th) is between you, the immigration office and your new employer.

MOST people cancel the work permit and extension 2 weeks or so before their actual termination date, get a stamp that allows them to stay those two weeks and THEN go get a new extension with their new employer at the new immigration office.

8th APRIL is when I stopped working and it is mentioned in my working experience letter from school. Which I'm not going to use it at the office.

The WP and visa is still valid till 14th JUNE and the school has said that they would not cancel or anything till I get another job.

Now I have got another job in different province and this is where all the confusion is starting.

I can contact my old school and ask them to cancel the WP when I'm ready.

Is it like.... I go cancel my WP and on a same day go to immigration CW and cancel my visa and get another I believe 7 days, go to the new province office next day and start all over again from Labor office to immigration within these 7 days.

Should I start the process now or just wait for the end of May or 1st June?

it seems to me that you're just not wanting to hear what people are saying as far as how the process works ๐Ÿ™

Good luck with it, I'm done.

No, you shouldn't get that 7days stamp. That is not an extension. Once you get that 7-days-to-leave stamp, you cannot get any other extension or visa in-country. You have no choice but to leave that country within that stamp date.

That's why moderators have been telling you you can cancel "in advance" and proceed with the new employer within that period.

I thought just a phone call from the new province labor office to the old school to cancel the WP would do ๐Ÿค”

Is that mean I have to go in person to dindaeng to cancel the WP?

@Raasta ******
You or your previous employer have to cancel it at the labor office where it was issued.

Heard that once I cancel the WP I instantly overstay

So hopefully I can ask them again for the real cancellation when I sort out all this issues.

I just don't want to leave the country for all the paperworks

They are OK, I've asked that I'll call the school office when I get new papers from new school then they will cancel.

It was my first confusion, if I can just call the school office and ask them to talk to the labor officer for cancellation the WP and that's it.

8th April was just a resignation letter that I wanted to show it to the new school.

The old school have n't done anything official with labor office yet

My previous school has not cancel or done anything with the WP or the visa

, so I guess I'm still OK from the overstay thing ๐Ÿค”

To cancel your WP and extension of stay, you need the letter/documents from your (your saying previous) employer that states you finish your work on xx date. So if you are still okay or not depends on how your employer prepares the documents, not the current stamp.

If they prepare the documents with 8 April as your resigning date, you are on overstay. It makes you have to pay an overstay fine and it also MIGHT make the procedure of new employment tougher. You better check with your employer ASAP.

I have already resigned from the school on 8th April I have the letter from school mentioning that I have worked from this year till 8 April 22.

I asked them not to cancel the WP till I get another job,

@Raasta ******
technically you're already on overstay as of 8 April. The moment the reason for your extension stops, your extension is no longer valid also.

So when you go in to cancel your work permit and extension and show them that letter, it's not going to be good.

@Raasta ******
you get a letter from your company with the date you will end working and then cancel ahead of time. So if your work ends on 30th you can go in on 15th and cancel for the 30th and then you have time to get everything sorted for your new job

Canceling the extension, will they give me extra 7 days after I cancel?

@Raasta ******
You cancel the work permit at the Ministry of Labor where you got the work permit.

You cancel the Extension of Stay at the Immigration Office who put the stamp in your passport, it is the top line of the stamp in case of.

You go a few weeks before the last day mentioned in WP and passport to the Ministry of Labor to cancel your Work Permit and the Immigration Office to cancel your Extension of Stay on the last day of employment.

Your new boss in another province apply for a Work Permit at the local Ministry of Labor and you apply with his documents at the local Immigration Office for a NEW Extension of Stay.
