What should I know about retirement extension to stay and re-entry permits in Thailand?

Retirement - Extension to stay for 1 year and the Multiple Exit/Re-entry permit.

FOR INFO AND COMMENTS

I was given a Retirement extension to stay last year which took me up to 25th June 2018.

I also was given a multiple exit/re-entry with went up to 25th June 2018.

.

Then this year (in early June) I was given a new Retirement Extension to stay dated up to 25th June 2019.

.

I then went to Dubai June 19th 2018 and returned June 20th .

Immigration at the airport stamped me in with a note that I could stay until June 25th 2018!

.

I went to my local immigration to ask what was going on.

.

They told me that the multiple exit/re-entry permit was for my previous Retirement extension of stay (ending June 25th 2018) and that because I did not have a new multiple exit/re-entry that my new Retirement extension had to be cancelled!

HORRORS!

After almost 90 minutes they then said because I had returned before June 25th 2018 that it would be OK.

.

I then applied for a new Multiple exit/re-entry permit and when I got my passport back I had a new 90 day report notification in it!.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user details their experience with retirement visa extensions and multiple exit/re-entry permits in Thailand. After receiving a new retirement extension valid until June 2019, the user faced confusion upon returning from Dubai regarding the validity of their multiple exit/re-entry permit, which was tied to their previous extension. Local immigration clarified that their new extension required a new re-entry permit, but ultimately, the user was allowed to stay due to their return date being prior to the expiration of their original extension.

You are SO lucky. re-entry permits are extension specific :O IF you get a new extension get a NEW re-entry permit. The old one was technically invalidated when you got the new extension because a re-entry permit is thai'd :O err tied to an extension.

Once again, you are super lucky, by rights they could have given you just a 30 day visa exempt entry and made you start ALL over from scratch because you got a year extension then didn't get a matching re-entry permit

never crossed my mind that I would need to. Nobody ever told me that the exit/re-entry was tied to the retirement extension

just, WOW . Sympathies David, you musta been sweating over that one. Totally unreasonable imo that a valid multiple re-entry permit still valid should be invalidated because of a new extention of stay. Of course if following the better safe than sorry philosophy, why didn't you "buy" a new multiple re-entry permit when you got the new extension?
