What are the current requirements for obtaining a retirement extension of stay in Thailand and a re-entry permit?

A final summary on my retirement based one year extension of stay obtained at Phuket Immigration in August 2018...

It was pretty much easy, but it seems there are a few new little changes/tweaks to be aware of. Ones I wasn't told about, so maybe they are not new tho...

The attached photo checklist by another member for the Extension of Stay application at Room 1.03 was a great start. But I would make one small change to it now, at least for me...

And that is that I was required to also provide a photocopy of my credit card (front only) and signed of course. Because my card was black it was virtually illegible but that was still acceptable, I still don't know why it was requested tho...

Additionally, after paying 1900 baht and having the digital photo taken, I was told the TM7 documents and passport had to be left for pickup the next day, even tho I had seen the immigration officer put all the required stamps, dates and signatures in the passport and on the application to grant the Extension of Stay. So I was just a little surprised...

One more piece...

I also wanted to get a multiple use Re-entry Permit. However I found that they would not process the TM8 at the same time as the TM7 application.

No real problem, so when I returned and easily picked up mg passport I went around to Room 1.01. There I got caught out just a little bit as I didn't know what documents were required to support the TM8.

A quick bit of advice from the Farang helper, three signed photocopies later of passport details and biometric page, current extension of stay, and TM6 departure card from just outside and I was in the queue. Less than 15 minutes later and 3800 baht paid and I was out of there smiling happily...

Wonder what would have happened if you did not have a credit card.

I think nothing will come of it, and I appreciate you giving the update about how the procedure works down there. Thanx again (y)

I just reported what happened.

It was not said to me in any funny way at all...

I didn’t want to do it, and still feel uncomfortable about it, tho thankfully the photocopy was illegible for numbers. And like you’ve indicated I didn’t feel I was in a strong enough position to refuse it, or push for an explanation...

However I did query it to make sure I had heard the request correctly and it was repeated to me. It was a request directly from the Thai helper guy who works outside and that everyone raves about being good and helpful...

When I got the photocopy and returned, the helper guy looked at it and then asked me to sign the page, which I did. He then stalled it into the package of documents that I took inside.

Inside the immigration officer stamped the credit card page, together with some of the other pages, but not all, so he was expecting it to be there...

I am watching my credit card now for anything suspicious...

I have never heard of it being asked for OR be asked for it in the last 10 years I've been on extensions for being over 50 (retirement) and used the income affidavit notary from my consulate as proof of financials.

I would have at least asked WHY I had to do it, but then again I'm not afraid to argue with government officials over anything here if I think it doesn't make sense :O
