What should I enter for 'place of issue' if my passport doesn't explicitly state it?

To those who got their passport abroad, what did you type in "place of issue"? My passport doesn't have this field so I'm struggling because of the posts of several people who got their application cancelled because they filled in the country where the passport was issued. My passport has the voice "Authority". Should I type in what it's written there? I mailed the embassy which replied me "Fill in the form in full accordance with the information in your passport". Please only replies from those who have already applied in a situation similar to mine. Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around what to enter as the 'place of issue' in visa applications when the passport does not clearly specify this information. Users are sharing their experiences and suggestions. Many recommend using the issuing authority listed in the passport, whether it be a location (like London or Washington DC) or an abbreviated form (e.g., HMPO for UK passports). There's consensus that issues arise if the information provided does not match the passport details, and this is particularly critical for eVisa applications.

Yes put in what it says, One of mine is HMPO. That’s what I put in for issue location . Never had any issues

Just saw on my older passports it shows this. The change is due to CM consulate no longer issues them.

For the US, I always put US, even though my last one was obtained in Malaysia. It's still issued through the US via the consulate or embassy and there's no distinction with where in the US it may be getting processed.
John ********
Uk ones say HMPO ...I write HMPO UK

@Richard *******
I see, that explains it. Mine was done in 2016.
Rob *******
@John *******
... uk ones can have one of 4 different issuing authorities, UKPA, UKPS, IPS or HMPO.
Andy ******
@John *******
for the UK passport we don't need to fill anything in, it's done by the issuing authority.

I did mine in Berlin. It says HMPO. The passport was posted from the UK according to the information I had at the time.

Usually every passport has an issuing, in my case Bangkok. Just fill in where it was issued
Rob *******
For British passports, it's on the main page.

I'm an Australian citizen. Passport originally issued in Adelaide but recently renewed in Aust Embassy in Bangkok. I've always filled in this form with Adelaide, Australia without issues.

The city where the passport is issued should suffice . I enter London ( that is the site of one of several UK authority offices) , both on-line and manually on immigration forms and have not experienced any problems. However, e-visa applications made outside of Thailand sounds like a different scenario ? Also what country is the OP from ?
Ryan ********
I think it’s US Embassy

@Ryan *******
doubtful. embassy sends to usa.
Ramy *******
I always put US since I am a US citizen and it is a US passport.
Mark *******
I’m 95% sure you would use your home country. Place of issue is most likely where your passport was originally issued, not where it was printed or you received it. Most information on the web agrees with this sentiment. Best of luck to you!
Goodd *******
What’s written under “authority”? You usually write the issuing authority ( in my case HMPO).
Manuel *******
I have always just put USA, though my passport renewal was done in Thailand. Never had a problem, yet.

This topic comes up a lot and several people reported rejections on eVisas thru thai consulates (all over the world) when they got that question wrong.

I honestly don't know what the correct answer is but hopefully someone will weigh in about it
@Wannikea ********
didn't you contact an embassy about this?

@Tod ********
Just asked a dutch friend. New passport about half year ago via Dutch Embassy in BKK. In that field (In Dutch 'Ministerie van Buitenlandse zaken') So 'Ministry of Foreign Affairs' in English. But if needed a city he uses 'Bangkok'.

@Tod ********
fortunately my passport had a issuing authority field and Bangkok was written in there. So even tho the form may ask place of issue, I found putting the name found in the issuing authority field to work for me, and it was also the embassy suggestion for the place of issue.

@Tod ********
I have always put Washington DC USA
