TLDR : Answer Summary
Australians are unsure whether to list their actual city or the 'Place of Birth' as indicated on their passport when completing the 'city of birth' section on a visa application. Community feedback suggests matching the entry to what is on the passport or including both the place of birth and a known city name.

I put place of birth and a / Adelaide as I’m from there and just got visa approved

Just write it as to match the passport.
