What should I enter for the 'Place of Issue' in my DTV visa application for Thailand?

I’ve noticed quite a few DTV application rejection due to incorrect personal information—specifically in the “Place of Issue” section.

It seems that many applicants are entering the name of their countries passport in this field, when in fact, it should be the EXACT wording shown under the “Place of Issue” or “Authority” depending on your counties passport.

In all my previous visa applications for Thailand, I’ve always entered what’s written under “Authority” rather than simply listing the country name, and I’ve never had any issues.

I think it would be helpful to clarify this once and for all to prevent others from making the same mistake—and potentially losing money as a result.

Can anyone else who has successfully applied for the DTV visa confirm if this is correct?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Many applicants are getting their DTV visa applications rejected due to incorrect information in the 'Place of Issue' field. This field should contain the exact wording found on the passport, specifically under 'Authority' or 'Place of Issue,' rather than just the country name. Experiences shared by others vary, with some applicants confirming success after following this guideline, while others report issues based on their embassy preferences or passport details. It's advised to check with the embassy or consulate if unsure.

I think the main issue here is that some passports have a bunch of numbers and some letter sequences listed as place of issue. This probably confuses some embassies. Would be best to check with the embassy/consulate before applying to confirm what one should write in those cases.

yeah, this would make sense. I’ve emailed both embassies I’m thinking of applying from asking for clarification, so let’s hope that they respond and provide a clear explanation. I’ll post here once I hear back

I put "United States of America" for mine even though my passport was issued through the US embassy in Bangkok. Approved in Jakarta

I also put "California" under city of birth, because the state is listed in my passport, not the city. My advice, try to match the passport as closely as possible.

Anonymous participant 410 of course, the city of birth section is understandable, but my passport does not have “Place of issue” listed, it only has “Authority”

Some people have been denied for doing exactly what you said. It seems to depend on the embassy.

that’s ridiculous if it changes from one embassy to another because it juts becomes a guessing game.. . I’ve emailed two embassies asking them to clarify this, so let’s see what they say.

Yeah, but it would be consistent with the other inconsistencies between embassies, immigration offices etc.
