How should US passport holders fill out the city of birth on visa applications when only the state is listed?

I have a silly question for US passport holders.

The form asks for city of birth but our passports use the state and country. Did anyone get any questions about this? I'm just not sure how they'll verify which city I was born in since nothing I'm submitting will have this info. I'm currently in HCMC and plan to apply here.

TLDR : Answer Summary
US passport holders are uncertain about how to fill out the city of birth field on visa applications since their passports only display the state and country. Various users have shared their experiences, suggesting to match the application with the information on the passport and exclude the 'USA' when specifying the birthplace. It appears that including the state suffices, and some have successfully submitted their applications this way.

Same as comment above. For my husbands passport (US) we used the state, for mine (Canada) we used the city. Both done to match passports.

I messaged the NY consulate about this bc it also will auto fill and include the city and country into "City of Birth". For me, it was 'New York USA'. I messaged them and deleted USA as the previous question asks country of birth and got confirmation that it was correct.

My guess is other nationalities include cities but ours just includes states. The application and passport information need to match in the system so don't include city of birth if it is not included in your passport
