Is the DTV visa linked to your specific passport and it’s number? I’m applying for DTV now but hope to get a new passport in a few months.
If I can apply normally with my current one and get approved do I need to transfer it to a new passport or how does it work?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV visa is linked to your specific passport and its number. If you apply with your current passport and it gets approved, you will need to carry both your old passport (with the visa details) and your new passport while entering Thailand. Alternatively, after obtaining your new passport, you can visit immigration services to have the details from your old passport transferred to your new one, allowing you to use just the new passport along with the DTV visa printout.
Like others have mentioned, carry both passports. In addition, you should print out and keep a copy of the approved DTV e-visa with you.
A recent post had someone recommending printing and laminating the approved e-visa in a A6 size. You may want to consider doing that

You have 2 options. Carry both your old passport (with the passport number on the DTV printout) and your new passport for the remainder of the 5 years of your visa.
Or you can go to immigration after you get your new passport, and they will add the details of your old passport into your new passport, allowing you to use the new passport by itself with the printout of your DTV visa.

Yes it is linked to your passport. When you get a new one, carry both passports for entry into Thailand
