Further update regarding bank account. I have had an account with Bangkok bank for 3 years no problem....until 3 days ago. Logged in for online banking only to see account suspended...phone number and name don't match. Go into the bank to sort out, and to make it worse I couldn't find my bank book. I needed a receipt from the phone company to prove name and number belong to me and bank book...got neither !!

Anyway, bank staff very helpful and cooperative...cost 100 baht and we will make up new bank book...whilst we do that, go to AIS shop and change phone number in my name and get receipt. Did that , went back to the bank, signed a rain forest load of paper and job was done. ..and new bank book. Told it would be 7 days before reinstated....pleaded I need sooner because of bills to be paid, and 5 hours later back online. Brilliant service and relatively straightforward. Just saying....

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post details a user's experience with their Bangkok Bank account being suspended due to a mismatch between their registered name and phone number. After visiting the bank and realizing they had lost their bank book, they were guided to obtain a receipt from AIS (a phone company) to prove ownership of the phone number. The bank staff were cooperative, and after paying a small fee, a new bank book was issued. The user had to update their phone number to match their bank account and faced a temporary suspension that was eventually resolved in a matter of hours. The comments discuss similar experiences and emphasize the importance of ensuring that all documents are in order to prevent such issues.

I’m having the same problem now. But I’ve been using the same phone number for almost 7 years and this bank account only for 3 years and it was opened with work permit. I’m thinking to call the bank instead of going to a branch in person incase they make things more difficult

@Alison ***
i have had the same number for 4 years, but they needed to fill in some info and take picture of me at the truemove shop, everything was ok at the bankside since the number was same
Alison ****
@Toni ******
yea I went to AIS they printed out a piece of paper with my name and phone number and told me just to show that paper to the bank

@Alison ***
If you call they'll tell you to go to a branch to sort it out. Very little can be done over the phone with Thai banks
Alison ****
Anonymous participant 446 that’s no good. I rarely use this Bangkok bank account. But when I go to Kbank branch they always have to call their call center asking for advise so i thought would be the same with Bangkok bank

Good one. Seems to have been the mobile plumber and name not aligned rather than visa type though?

Same problem unfortunately I am in Europe and need my online banking any suggestions

@Craig ******
This is not a new measure they take, it is already going on for quite a while. My gf had to arrange this already in January.

It is for all Thai bank accounts.

Did you miss it or were you the whole time in Europe?
Craig *******
@Luit ****************
I think I might have missed it because I had not used the account for a while,will call tomorrow
Alison ****
@Craig ******

Anonymous participant 517 no, go get another one...100 baht...no real problem
Anonymous ******************
dont' lose your bank book, and you would of saved 100 baht and saved your time running to AIS shop. so moral of the story, don't lose your bank book

ORIGINAL POSTER
Anonymous participant 517 ..No, as others have said the AIS receipt and new number in my name has nothing to do with the bank book...
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer 517 The trip to AIS is not related to the missing bank book I think, or am I missing something?
Anonymous ******************
@Luit ****************
he needed to update his phone number, you need your bank book to do that and he need to go to AIS shop to either get proof of ownership or a new number.
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer 581 The AIS receipt was needed anyway to proof name and address of bank account number match with name and address of phone number because that now is needed to use the app as a security measure for Thai banks.
Anonymous ******************
@Luit ****************
which is exactly what I said
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer 581 it might be what you meant to say, bu your reaction on my post that there is no relation with the lost bankbook and the trip to AIS, gave me the impression that you saw there was a relation.
Greg ********
Anonymous participant 517 Woukd still have to go to AIS to get proof if Sim being tied to ID
