Now I got a new phone and got all the apps installed that I need. When opening the SCB App it wants me to switch from wi-fi to mobile data to verify my phone number.
And here is my problem.
I'm not in Thailand at the moment.
If I put my ais SIM in my phone, switch to 📲 data outside Thailand, would I be able to register into the app or would it just block my account?
On the old phone I can use internet banking outside Thailand without any issues.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user wants to know if they can verify their SCB app while outside Thailand using their AIS SIM card for mobile data. Various commenters share experiences indicating difficulty with international banking app setups, with most suggesting it's challenging to authenticate a new phone from abroad. Several people recommend using the old phone to access the app until the user returns to Thailand, as the account typically remains accessible through the old phone. It's also noted that users might need to visit a branch for verification in person if they experience any access issues.
Try your thai sim; sms may work. If not try the app and text them to ask for international service. If yiu need to top it up you can use mobiletopup.com
You won't freeze your account but I changed my phone and had to go into the branch. SCB, BKK bank and KK have top banking apps. When you come back go into the branch they will have it up and running in minutes. I believe it's to do with registering the new MAC address. It will still work on your old phone.
Also, now with Siambank you can use only one phone.
Better to have also an account in Bangkok Bank. No need to get the sim to change a phone. Just need to know the number of your atm card and your code
I am not sure that roaming is better because I don't know if they need the simcard only or the thai simcard connected to a thai network. You can try it. Not very expensive.
Im with kisikorn bank and both my wife and me had to go to data internet to set up our app on new phones.give your data internet a try if it does'nt work ya can sort it when next ya come Thailand.i had once simular with bangkok bank got locked out of sign in to account but got here and sorted it all over the phone with service care
i did'nt get locked out on my kisikorn account as i swapped phones in Thailand i was just stating you have to go to your new phones internet not wifi turn it off, i was locked out off my bangkok account through the covid period and was saying after 3yrs when i returned it all got sorted by phone in Thailand.so dont be worried if you get locked out its simple to sort when you come Thailand next.
I have the same problem, use your new phone as a WiFi hot-spot, connect your old phone and use the app like that till you can get back and sort it out with your bank, hope this helps.
What would happen if I try to verify my phone number outside Thailand and it doesn't work? Do they block my account or can I still have access through my old phone?
I had the same issue when I left Thailand for a year. But after I came back, I went to the SCB Bank and changed my mobile phone number and all went well. It's still working.
I went into the branch to verify my new phone number as I lost the old ais SIM. I think I even went in there with my new phone but switched back to my old one as I couldn't be bothered setting up the new phone. I didn't know there was an easy way with the Samsung smart switch app, else I would have done it straight away.
You probably can't do it at all. I don't have SCB, but krungthai and Bangkok Bank. When I got a new phone, I could not do it alone as a foreigner. Had to go into branch to and have the staff verify me manually to login new phone.
same for me , tried many times to verify myself with krungthai as they have now closed netbank on pc , but been told I have to go in to a branch , but I'm not in Thailand
I have seen similar issues. Your issue might be international roaming! Doing things across borders digitally is becoming more difficult, sounds stupid but I experienced these issues!
