Hey guys. Pretty sure I have got the answer from searching the history but if someone can please confirm to set my mind at ease. I am here on visa exempt, extended by 30 days. My passport is full and just got a new one. Going to Laos to get a non~o based on my wifes work permit. I am south African.

question~ I just travel out with both passports Right? No need to get visa exempt stamp transferred to my new passport?

Thanks guys

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual originally on a visa exempt status extended by 30 days is seeking confirmation about the correct procedure for traveling out of Thailand with a new passport. Comments suggest that it is standard practice to carry both the old and new passports when exiting, as the exit stamp will be on the old passport while the entry to Laos will be processed through the new one. However, there are concerns regarding the necessity of transferring the extension stamp from the old passport to the new one. It is generally advised to check with immigration beforehand, especially since there can be strict protocols depending on the office.

More or less yesterday I did the same but to be safe I took the Embassy letter to the Imagration captain who had everything in order for me before I went to Cambodia. Saving a big headache. ..got the advice right here.

If you were on a 30 day visa exempt or a 60 day tourist visa entry I'd say you could stamp right out at the border. It's being on an extension that can cause the issue..

As a rule IF you are on an extension of stay <- (which you are) you take your passport to the immigration office and get that extension stamp, your entry stamp and a notation you switched passports done BEFORE you exit the country. BUT some immigration offices will not transfer extension stamps for 30 day visa exempt or tourist visa to a new passport.

You should be able to just show up at the border showing both passports AND the letter from your consulate stating you got a new passport and get it all sorted when you stamp out.

it can't hurt to check with the immigration office and see what they'll do BUT many of them are hard core about that embassy letter.

I don't have a letter from my embassy. Family organized my new passport. Should I just pop into immigration to be safe?Or can i stamp out on my old passport and come back in on a new one?

The make a BIG deal of it at the border sometimes about you being on an extension of stay and NOT getting the stamps transferred BEFORE you come to stamp out.
