What should I do if my tourist visa application asks for an invitation letter in Thailand?

Hey, I know this is not a visa group but I could really do with some advice. I am applying for the 60 day tourist visa TR. At the end of the application you can upload supporting documentation - it is asking for the passport or ID card of the person inviting me. But we are applying for a tourist visa so we're not being invited. I cannot proceed with the application without this. I have been trying to get through to the embassy and was on hold for nearly 2 hours before being cut off. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone have any advice? Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is applying for a 60-day tourist visa (TR) but encounters a requirement to submit an invitation letter or proof of accommodation from an inviter, which is confusing since they are applying for a tourist visa and not being invited. Various commenters suggest alternatives, such as submitting hotel reservations as proof of accommodation and considering the visa exemption route if applicable. Additional advice pertains to ensuring documentation for after quarantine and clarification on different visa processes and experiences shared among users.

I've been hearing that in October they want to allow foreigners with a vaccine passport to enter with no quarantine

Can already enter Phuket and Samui without a vaccine passport or quarantine if you’ve had 2 jabs.

I think Pattaya will be added to the list soon but no word on bangkok yet

All the ASQ documentation is needed after TR is issued to apply for COE.

Nothing has changed for TR.

You need passport copy, booked at least 1 week accommodation after quarantine or Sandbox, fly ticket to and out and that’s about it.

Once you have send or given them your passport and got visa stamp in, you can apply for CoE.

First they ask ASQ paid, (in sandbox also vaccination proof, 3 covid tests prepaid), flight tickets, insurance etc etc..

And there is pre-approved and approved.

Gather all documents needed and you are ready to go.

It does take longer of you apply for visa first, but in 2-3 weeks you should be ready to fly.

If your country qualifies and you’re staying 60 days or less, sounds like you’d have an easier time by getting a 45 day visa exemption stamp on arrival. Once in country, you can go to immigration office and extend your stay for up to an extra 30 days at a cost of 1900bht. Job done!

One of the reasons we are going for the tourist visa is that we don't need to prove onward or return travel (we are arriving on a one way ticket).
Nick *******
@Peter ******
Are you looking to stay in Thailand more than 60 days? If you are, entering on a tourist visa won’t avoid questions why you don’t have a return ticket anymore than arriving visa exempt.

@Nick ******
would love to but I don't think there are any options at the moment from what I read on the embassy page
Nick *******
@Peter ******
So if you’re not staying longer than 60 days, why don’t you have a return ticket? You’re not being clear enough for genuine help.

We plan to travel to a different country after Thailand but not sure where yet (as travel restrictions change so quickly at the moment). We'd love to stay a bit longer that 60 days but this doesn't seem to be an option at the moment so we will stay the 60 days that we are allowed to.

@Peter ******
You could get up to 75 days with visa exemption 45 on entry + 30 extension.

Also look into the covid visa. Think it’s 45 days and able to extend multiple times. I’ve heard this is ending in September and last extension will take you to November. So if you’re travelling soon you can get at least 3.5 months in Thailand.

I take it your under 50 years old?

In this section for your situation you put proof of your hotel booking after your quarantine hotel. So where will you be staying after quarantine? And what proof do you have?
Peter *******

@Anthony *******
Ah ok, we haven't booked one yet. But do you think a second booking would suffice?
Anthony ********
@Peter ******
yes you need to show where you will be staying after quarantine ie another hotel booking
Rūta *********
@Anthony *******
not for TR visa. That’s later for COE application. TR actually asks for proof of accommodation after SHA+ or ASQ.. it’s not the same as STV or exemption..

I just gone through that.

@Rūta ********
it is I'm in quarantine now so I know what documents I had to submit

@Anthony *******
while you are in quarantine, I am in Phuket. So I also know what I am talking about.

For TR visa application online ASQ or SHA+ was not needed. But was needed accommodation paid after or proof where you will stay after.

just a quick warning Peter. I see this question is getting many replies. Don't be confused. You need a document about where you go after quarantine hotel. I would stick with your original plans. Thai immigration are not stupid. If you don't have a onward flight they are less likely to require a return ticket. Also they are aware of people arriving hoping to get a covid extension. It's by no means guaranteed. I'm in quarantine right now. Good luck!

@Anthony *******
I just applied for TR visa, followed by COE and now I am in Phuket.

You first need TR to apply for COE. And for TR they are asking accommodation after SHA+ hotel or ASQ. Then on COE you need proof of ASQ.

I had SHA+ booked but not paid. I did not risk paying before they issue any visa for me. Once I had visa, I paid for SHA+ accommodation and uploaded that in CoE application. And yes, I had onwards ticket. Not a return ticket.

Say what you want. I literally just gone that through... Which part exactly I was not right in your eyes?

I don't know about phuket sandbox I am in quarantine in Bangkok maybe it's different? Also this was the application procedure from the UK. Im sure you are right about what you say. We have just been through different experiences. Good luck enjoy your holiday!
Rūta *********
@Anthony *******
yes but before you apply for Coe, you applied for visa. Those are two different processes. TR have nothing to do with Sandbox or quarantine in Bangkok because you can also get visa and use it in 3 months time like before. You just putting all paperwork as one big process together. And sure, you need all documents eventually.

But if he starts with what he needs and add other things later it could save himself money if there is a delay or cancellation each one of the steps..

It’s 3x more expensive to come to Thailand now than before covid. (Been coming for last 5 years on different kinds of visas) So it is worth to be cautious, read every line two or three times before applying. Specially now when things are changing by day..

Some people recommend you to look if they have FB messenger. Some embassy seems easier to contact that way.

Same in USA. My enquiries via old tech like email & calls were answered by silence. I sent a FB message and got a complete reply in 2 hours. One reason is that anti-gov movement is spamming their emails addresses.
