TLDR : Answer Summary
A user reported losing their passport in Thailand and reapplying through their embassy, but is facing an expiring visa in two days. They have police clearance and an affidavit, along with a letter from the embassy requesting a 30-day extension. Comments suggest going to immigration with the necessary documents to request the extension, considering applying for an emergency passport, or facing overstay fines upon receiving the new passport.

visit your embassy, apply for the "emergency passport". It should be issued within 24 hours. With this passport and the police report about the loss of the old passport, you can exit Thailand as planned and return to your home country

Hmm strange lost passports do not get replaced overseas unless the world has changed

@Bri ****
Embassies issue emergency passport and process real passport applications. I'm Swedish and my two latest passports were issued in Singapore and Thailand.

I have a newborn . And was able to get an emergency passport for her within in 24 hours . We had to leave for stamps . Bit because her time of birth it was taking to long for her actual passport . We were issued the emergency passport which is good for 1 year

This happened to us last year. We were told by immigration it's better to leave as going on overstay could affect visa extensions in the future. There is no way for them to give you any kind of exceptional extension as you have no passport. We were on the verge of applying for an emergency travel document with our embassy when the passport arrived.

U need to pay overstay and don't get caught in the meantime

Go to immigration immediately

Immigration cannot help. They need your passport before they can extend an entry stamp.

the person has a letter from embassy and police, if you don't try you will never know, never let the Negative win

But it's been tried countless times before. You cannot get an extension on a "lost passport" otherwise everybody would be losing their passports to stay longer! I'm not negative, simply realistic!

Immigration can't do anything. You need a passport first.

Do you want to stay or go ? If you want to stay go to immigration with the police clearance , affidavit and the letter from the embassy and see if they give you the 30 day extension

best thing is to go and ask at immigration nothing to loose

@Plumber ******
she has nothing to stamp the extension into

get an extension how? Without a passport you can't even apply, let alone receive an extension. Where would they even put it?
Plumber *******
@Brandon ***********
but surely that’s what the affidavit etc is for
Brandon ************
@Plumber ******
It doesn't matter. No passport, no nothing. There is an entire country of people whose embassy provides them affidavits requesting extension as a normal practice. Still need a passport to apply for that extension.

weren't you able to apply for an "emergency passport" . . the one from your embassy which would allow you to fly back home instantly and avoid an overstay? These passports usually get issued on the same day

You go on overstay. Once you get your new passport you go to immigration, pay your overstay fine of 500 baht per day, and apply for the extension.
