Is it possible to extend my stay in Thailand after receiving a 30-day visa-exempt entry stamp?

I got pulled aside upon entry due to rentering too quickly from a weeklong holiday in Saigon. I showed proof of an onward ticket to Puerto Princessa scheduled to leave in a few days so I was told I would receive a 7-day exempt rather than 30 days. To my surprise, I noticed a 30 day stamp instead. Was he just messing with me? Does anyone know if I can stay longer now? I'd like to change my flight to leave at the end of the month instead.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user was initially advised that upon re-entry to Thailand, they would receive a 7-day exemption due to their quick re-entry from a week-long holiday. However, they received a 30-day stamp instead. Various comments clarify that the 30-day entry is standard for visa-exempt arrivals, and they can extend their stay for an additional 30 days at an immigration office for a fee. Overall, the user should not worry about the entry stamp and has the option to extend their stay.

that stamp isn't a VISA :O it's a visa exempt entry :/

you got a 30 day visa exempt entry (you can tell that because of the ผ.30) stamp in the visa class area.

You can extend that for 30 days at the immigration office for 1900baht.

The only hassle you will have exiting Thailand is if you overstay.

He kept me in his corner for a good 30 minutes, printed out my entire travel history, made tons of marks on it, and stated clearly that he was only giving me a week so I'm just worried that I might be flagged in the computer and get hassled upon exit.

there is no such thing as a 7 day visa exempt entry, the officer was blowing smoke up your arse. :O

The officer stamping you in has no discretion in the number of days you get either.

They have two choices; 1 - let you into the country and stamp you in for the number of days you're allowed (visa exempt, tourist visa, Non-Immigrant visa) OR 2 - they have to deny you entry.

Sounds like some IO chest beating to me..

Maybe he got a bollocking from his boss just prior. They like to show they are worthy of a uniform at times.

Garrett Greenwald or c) a scare tactic to somehow get me to crack and deny me entry. After I showed him proof of onward travel, he continued to interrogate me about my travel plans beyond my next destination before finally giving me his stamp of approval. He was kind enough to explain that I needed to travel for at least a month before re-entering next time. This was at DMK.
