Hi! Im doing the border run in Mae Sai. I've stayed 60 days so far. Arrived on visa exemption and extended for another 30 days in immigrations. I'm wondering if there's a need for me to be prepared for proof of funds, lodging, and onward travel. Based on what Ive read so far, the chance of them being asked asked is pretty random. If it's best to be prepared, would an electronic copy of bus ticket suffice for proof of onward travel? Thanks in advance. :)

Done several Mae Sai runs and never been asked for anything. It's a very casual border with mostly Burmese coming and going.

Just an FYI, Green Bus is a good option to go there and back (if you don't plan on spending some time up there). Catch the 8 am VIP bus there and 2:30 VIP bus back (giving you two hours to do your border crossing and get some lunch). You have to take a song theaw from the bus station to the border (15 baht)...just follow the other foreigners. VIP seats are the first 4 rows on the bus and much more comfortable. Book online and pay at 7-11 within a couple of hours. Your 7-11 receipt is your ticket. Have a good trip!

While I'm all for being prepared too, the Mae Sai - Tachiliek border with burma does NOT ask for any of the 3-proof-ofz (onward travel, funds, lodging). You can stamp in and out of burma for $10USD or 500baht then stamp right back into thailand

Do keep in mind you can only do TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by land in a year.

I honestly did a Mae Sae run last week and had nothing on me except 1000 baht for bus/food etc. Everything was fine... went out stayed for an hour in dusty Myanmar and turned back.

Always best to be prepared, any proof of onward travel should be fine.
