What should I do if I mistakenly overstayed my tourist visa in Thailand?

Hi all, I made a mistake in thinking that my tourist visa was for 60 days!! I'm now here about 45 days. What to do? I've been here doing dental work and it's not done yet. I can come back, I'm just concerned about leaving. Yikes!

Thanks for your responses.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster mistakenly believed they had a 60-day tourist visa when they may have entered Thailand under a visa-exempt entry that only allows for 30 days. As they have been in Thailand for about 45 days, they are now on overstay. Advice from the community suggests consulting with immigration office to address the overstay, which incurs a fee, and applying for a possible 30-day extension. It's also pointed out that medical extensions cannot be applied due to overstay. The importance of examining entry stamps to confirm the type of entry is emphasized.

and everyone,

This is an excellent example of people NOT looking at their entry stamp when they enter the country ๐Ÿ˜• AND thinking showing up here without any visa in their passport and getting stamped in FREE for 30 days is a tourist visa <- it is NOT a visa at all, it's a free entry stamp.

AND

As far as the O/P their only option right now is to go to the immigration office, pay the 15 day overstay (at 500baht a day so 7500baht) and then apply for the 30 day extension (which will most likely be only for 15 more days <- because the overstay days count on it)

THEN when that 15 day extension runs out they will have to exit/re-enter the country.

As people pointed out you can't get a medical extension from an overstay so they need to clear the overstay, get the remainder of the 30 day extension then exit/re-enter the country to get a new 30 day visa exempt entry <- which they can also extend for 30 more days at the immigration office.

LOOK at your entry stamps when you stamp IN to the country people ๐Ÿ˜•

And THAT'S why the moderators always say; Use the correct names !!!! SO many people call a visa exempt entry a visa or visa on arrival or in your case touristvisa.

Also extensions of stay are so many times named visa.

"covid visa" was the prime example recently...thankfully that extension is no more!

it's exhausting trying to have conversations with most people about visas. Seems like hardly anyone knows what they're called. It's not that difficult

Get the dentist to sort it out on an extension on medical reasons

@Ken *******
, Medical extension cannot be applied once you are on overstay. Even if the dentist could help.

If he's on overstay, he's on overstay. A friggin dentist can't sort it out! ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

if added time is needed from the end of the 30 days extension of stay he is entitled to obtain... good point to seek a medical extension from the dentist.

A tourist visa is 60 days. Don't worry you still have 15 days

If you purchased a tourist visa from your country it should be 60 days and you can apply to extend for a further 30 days

Hmmmmm....how many days were you STAMPED in for when you arrived into Thailand ?

Look at your passport and let me know.

Did you buy a tourist visa before you flew to Thailand ? IF you did...you were stamped in for 60 days

OR did you enter visa exempt on arrival... with a 30 day stamp in your passport?

IF you did not buy a tourist visa before you arrived into Thailand...you were stamped in for 30 days...

And IF you have not yet obtained from your local Thai immigration office a 30 day extension of stay...you are now on OVERSTAY.
