TLDR : Answer Summary
A user expressed concern about their current passport expiring soon while waiting for a new one, with a 90-day reporting deadline approaching. Respondents noted that the existing passport should suffice for the reporting process, and even if the new passport arrives later, it can be used for future reports. Suggestions included keeping both passports together during the reporting visit and being prepared for potential delays in obtaining the new passport. Ultimately, having a valid passport at the time of the 90-day report is critical for compliance.

One thing I will add IS
I have seen people whose extensions were running out before their new 90 day date would come up and those people got 90 day report dates up until their current extension expires.
Ian you have a passport & an extension expiring on Nov 4th and a 90 day report due on Sept 24th,
I think while you will be able to file a 90 day report using the old passport number, the next due date will not be 3 months later in Dec BUT will be Nov 4th the date your current extension expires 🙂
I think the last update I heard from VFS Global <- the company contracted to renew brit passports here said that there is an 11 - 14 week wait for passports. 😮 still quite the wait 😕
BUT
a brit friend I know got his back exactly 8 weeks after he'd dropped off the packet at VFS Global in the Trendy Building on Sukhumvit Soi 13.
We are not talking about a 90 day extension on say an ED visa or something ?

I have a vague memory of the same situation. I was told to keep both passports together and then put the new 90 day stamp in the new passport. From what you’ve said your passport is valid for the mentioned 90 day stamp. I guess when you go they’ll tell you what to do. I think they stapled my passports together
you’re probably right. I’m thinking of the 90 day stamp given when you leave the country. But in fairness the writer isn’t clear about what the 90 days refers to. Whatever best to see the immigration folks to see what they say
you go try to file a 90 day report (I suggest in person) and if they won't accept it, when you get your new passport you go get the stamps transferred and then you file a 90 day report and take the 2000baht fine. 😮 It won't be the end of the world
However, I don't think you'll have any problem filing a 90 day report on a passport that's expiring before the next report would be due.

I won't have 90 days left on my passport.
I will transfer my visa as soon as I receive my new passport.
