Good morning, I need some help from those who are married in Thailand. My marriage visa expired on the 10th of March. Do I have to redo the whole process to extent my visa or is it just a check in a immagration ? Also does your spouse need to be with you ?

Thank you for you help

TLDR : Answer Summary
If your marriage visa has expired, you need to renew it by completing the whole application process again. It's crucial to go to immigration immediately, as you are currently overstaying your visa, which can lead to fines of 500 baht per day. Your spouse must accompany you to immigration, and you will need various documents for the renewal, including proof of having at least 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account for a minimum of two months. Immediate action is recommended to avoid further legal repercussions.

With a Thai husband you can get Thai nationality.

Wish the immigration dept was as strict in the UK.

For a marriage extension there are lots of documents you need for a one year extension, and now that you are in Thailand your wife must go with you to immigration. You are on overstay so go to immigration immediately with your wife and ask them what to do, and the list of documents required. The most critical is the minimum of bt400,000 in a Thai bank account in your name only for no less than two months.

If your visa has expired, you are already on overstay and can be arrested and deported. Fines accumulate at 500 baht per day, so you're already up to 2500 baht. Go now and fix it!

You need to go to immigration now..you can be deposited as a illegal

You need to do the whole thing each year to renew. But depending on your Immigration office, they may or may not visit your home in subsequent years.

David correct and that was a massive pain in the ass at the local district office in the village. But in the end we got it done and have the Thai certification of the marriage (not sure of the proper name).

David it was on their checklist of items required. We went and got a list while I was on the 90 day from Laos and we were preparing all the extension paperwork.

I never had a freedom of affirmation to marry. I did nothing with the embassy here. Maybe because we were married in America ?

But yeah I agree with you. Funny thing is I am twice divorced. One in America and one in Japan and that one is in Japanese and translated to English. I’m sure they have no idea what they were.

David Broadfoot I respectfully disagree based on my personal experience. I had to show my original divorce decree for my first extension of stay last year and for the follow up this year. First one in Ubon and this year in BKK.

David Broadfoot don’t forget divorce decrees if it’s not the first marriage. 👍🏻

thank you so much Paul. When you say the whole thing does that include the police clearance or just marriage certificate ? And proof of marriage ?

Aneska J V Rensburg I do not believe that a police clearance is required. All depends on which immifgration office you apply at. Best go to your office prior and ask for their list of requirements.
