What are the recent requirements for renewing a visa in Thailand if you're married to a Thai citizen?

I recently visited Nan immigration to renew my visa, I’m married to a Thai woman. When I was there they advised me that I need to update the bankbook of the account holding my required 400,000 baht at least once a month for the 4 months preceding my renewal application. I hadn’t, so I had to get a letter from the bank with a statement regarding my account.

I’m not referring to the regular letter of guarantee, this is a different second letter.

I don’t know if this rule was in place previously at other locations. I just thought I’d give everyone a heads up just in case.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When renewing a visa in Thailand as a spouse of a Thai citizen, it's now advised that you update your bankbook at least once a month for the four months preceding your renewal application. If you fail to do this, you'll need to obtain an additional letter from your bank confirming the 400,000 baht in your account. This requirement may not have been strictly enforced in the past, so it’s important to be aware of these current regulations to avoid complications during the renewal process.

nope, but the banks know about it not showing all transactions in the bank book and when you go in to get your bank letter they will often times give you a print out of all the transactions in a 3 month period

I've seen it a couple times down here in bangkok ONLY for people who don't go and update their bank books regularly.

It's common now to ask for that if you don't update your bank book often. It's because when you DO update your bank book after not doing it in a while it does NOT print all the transactions.

Most banks now give a print out of the previous 90 days transactions when you go get the bank letter.

No that’s not what I’m talking about. I needed an additional letter because I hadn’t updated my bank book often enough.

They want you to update your bankbook at least once a month for 4 months previous to your renewal application.

Ok, maybe it's just that imm office, Ive never had to update every month for 4 months, only once within 24 hours of applying plus the confirmation letter. Thanks for the update.

Yes, you need a letter from your bank confirming the 400,000bt, usually issued within 24 hours of the day you apply for your extention of stay. This is normal when using the banked money route.
