I went today (and yesterday) for my annual marriage VISA extension at Samut Prakan and the process was close to demential comparing to previous years. However, just to ease the burden, here is the list of what it must be produced:
- TM7 form; don't download any form from Internet and prefill because they won't accept it. You must get one at the counter and fill it in place (!!!) - (was not needed before).
- 2 photographs (4 by 6 cm)
- copy of passport photo page and Visa page.
- copy of TM6 form and TM30 slip
- bank signed statement proofing you have 400k THB or more in a Thai bank (note that your bank book must be updated as often as possible, if not they will ask for a supplemental paper from bank with the complete operation hystory and balance, that's why I failed yesterday), or proof of income of at least 40k THB/month.
- bank book updated for the date of application so, prior going to imm office, cash some money in your account and update the bank book.
- Marriage paper (Khor Ror 3)
- Marriage certificate (Khor Ror 2), they want a copy with the same date as of the date of application either (must pay a visit to district first).
- Wife ID card and tabian baan.
- Children birth certificate if any.
- Home documentation or rental contract. If the latter then you must provide your landlord's ID card and tabian baan copies. Note that if your landlord is not the main owner of your venue, you must provide property documentation as well (was not needed before)
- pictures of you and your wife "daily life" together. They must be color printed at groups of 2 per A4 page. One photo must show you and your wife in the bedroom :D
- a map to your current residence, Google maps won't be allowed so you must draw a sketch by hand
- All documents must be signed by you and your spouse with blue ink.
- 2 sets of the above
Besides, we had to face a "mini interview" with the officer who wanted to know how we knew each other, where we had the first date and which year it was (not needed before)
They also took a photo of us together when I had to show my passport under my face and my wife had to show her ID card (not needed before).
Last but not least, if this is your first extension you must have a witness and he/she must be a Thai nationals (I remember the first time I extended, we found a bike driver and gifted him 500 baht but, due to corona virus outbreak there are none hanging out so you better find somebody before).
If anything goes well, you get a 30 days under consideration stamp, a slip with the date your first 90 days reporting is due and a nice huge headache.
TLDR : Answer Summary
The marriage visa extension process in Thailand has changed recently, making it more complex than in previous years. Applicants must prepare various documents including a TM7 form, photographs, copies of passports and marriage certificates, bank statements, and proof of cohabitation. A mini-interview is conducted during the application, and first-time applicants need a witness who is a Thai national. Additional complications include showing detailed proof of finances and providing a hand-drawn map of residence. Many users report similar experiences across immigration offices, indicating a trend in increasing requirements.
