Dear all,

I am reaching the end of my “marriage” visa(pic attached) done in Penang last year.

I would like to extend it in Bangkok for another year and have few questions.

1) I went to chaeng wattana few months ago and asked for the documents needed to renew the visa and they gave me this paper in attached, is it still the same documents requested ? I have seen so many post about new procedure, I am a bit confused.

2) When can I start the process(how long before expiring) and how long will it take ?

Many thanks for your help and time.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking guidance on extending their marriage visa in Bangkok after its expiry. They have previously received a document listing the required paperwork for the extension and are unsure if this information is still accurate given potential new procedures. Additionally, they are inquiring about when to start the extension process, how far in advance they can apply, and the overall duration for processing the extension. Respondents provided clarifications on the documentation needed, the timeline for starting the application, and mentioned the necessity of a re-entry permit if traveling during the application process. They also discussed the advantages of maintaining a non-O visa over transitioning to a marriage extension.

, to be be completely honest, I would say given your travel requirements that a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa like you have (from a thai consulate) is a far easier choice than jumping thru all the hoops required to get a yearly extension of stay based on marriage to a thai at your immigration office.

I'd say use this visa until it runs out and then go get a new year-long, multi-entry Non-O from one of the consulates in the area

, okay let's sort out what you are wanting to do. You currently have a year-long, multi-entry VISA that you got from Penang and is good for umlimited entries of 90 days each until Aug 14th.

IF you are wanting to get a yearly extension at the immigration office you can do it any time you have 45 days or less left on your current 90 day entry stamp

Extensions based on marriage are NOT issued on the spot. You apply (with your wife, and all the required photos, documentation, hand drawn map etc) you will get a 30 day under consideration stamp and then you go back in 30 days to get the year extension inked into your passport.

IF you need to travel during the 30 day under consideration period you would need to buy a re-entry permit (AND it will only be valid for that 30 days). Now once you get the yearly extension inked into your passport you would need a NEW re-entry permit that will last the whole year.

keep in mind that those lists are specific to the immigration office AND if you're not using the Chaengwattana there is a high chance your immigration office has a slightly different set of requirements.

Your visa is valid till 14 Aug 2019, you can make a border run until or even on that day to activate a new 90 days Admitted to Stay. If you like to apply for an Extension of Stay based on marriage to a Thai National you can do this from 45 days till the last day of your current Admitted to Stay period. There are no changes in requirements, so the list you showed is correct.

Thanks for your concern Jussi, I am living with my wife, we do have a house together and a small baby.

So I will probably be home almost everyday. I slightly mind to go abroad for the visa as I am far quite a long time, if i can save 2-3 days home with my family, I will take this opportunity but if it doesn’t work, I will go for the visa as you advised I think. As per my work I will have probably 35 days off, so I will do the visa as soon as I land and will stick to home almost everyday. Don’t they call when they visit ? What if we are in BigC or something similar ? Wife is working weekday so she will probably not be there when they visit.

Robert Lagas He says he need to travel for work. This could turn out to be a huge problem, maybe. At most places where the imm police check are you really at home with your wife they will not be very flexible and let you know when they will be appearing at your door and need your neighbour to witness etc. It depends where the man and his wife lives at. Me and my wife did not receive any visit in BKK but it doesn't mean it will not happen.

@Jussi *******
If you have to worry about a police check that you live together with your wife at the address mentioned in your application form, I would advice not even apply for this Extension of Stay. If you're official married and live together there is nothing to worry about.

As Robert said, you should also worry about the police check that you are at home with your wife during that average one month evaluation period. If you don't mind travelling every 90 days, I would rather just repeat the Non-O multiple from Penang, as Vladimir suggested.

thanks again, all clear ! 😉
Robert *******
Trying to clear this up. You apply for an Extension of Stay at your local Immigration Office. This Extension of Stay is given for 30 days under consideration and after these 30 days you visit Immigration again to get the remaining 11 months of this Extension of Stay stamped in your passport. If you like to travel during this Extension of Stay you need a Re-Entry Permit, you can buy this as soon as the Extension of Stay is stamped in your passport and a Single re-entry cost 1.000 Thb or the multiple re-entry cost 3.800 Thb.

Following your message, I went to hunt on google, it seems as my visa is already multiple, I will be able to extend it as multiple.

It will not become a single entry visa.

Can you confirm that ? If it’s wrong you’re definitively right and I should go to do renew it in Savannakhet.

Hi Vladimir, I am doing a 1.5 month abroad and and 1.5 in Thailand. I was actually thinking while extending my visa, I will get a multi entry.

Isn’t it the same kind of visa with an extension ?
Vladimir ********
@Jean ***************
Not only wife presence mandatory, but you will need to apply then pick up your extension and be very careful with any leave as you will need to start worry about re entry permits. Maybe get another multiple from Savannakhet is a way better for your situation.

Thanks Robert, do you have an idea on how long does it takes ? Is the extension done within the same day ? I will have to go work abroad start of August.

Also, I believe you will tell me "yes" :) but is the wife mandatory ? (She is working and will probably not be happy to take a day off for paper)
