TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the renewal options for a Thai retirement visa before expiration and the possibility of switching to a marriage visa. It explains the financial requirements for both types of visa extensions, with an emphasis on the need for an affidavit of income for verification. Various comments provide advice on obtaining necessary documentation and highlight the advantages of maintaining a retirement visa compared to applying for a marriage visa.

if you're from the US you make an appointment online at the American Citizens Services website. You download the affidavit of income form and fill it out. On your appointment day you show up at the US consulate here in Bangkok, get the form notarized and that's it.

This is the link to the appointment system in Bangkok

This is the link to the affidavit of income from abroad form you fill out. DO NOT sign or date the form. they date it at ACS and you sign in front of them when you get it notarized.

Thomas, another thing you could do if you can't meet the financial requirements IS

seeing as you're married to a thai go to the thai consulate in Savannakhet Lao and get a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa based on marriage for 5000baht.

That consulate doesn't require ANY proof of funds to issue that visa and they only require minimal documentation

On that visa you would have to exit/re-enter the country every 90 days for the validity of the visa but you could get 15 months of stay (in 90 day increments) out of it.

that is the affidavit of income from abroad notary I mentioned where you put down you get 40K baht a month in income.

If your current extension expires in Oct, you can apply for a NEW yearly extension of stay when you have 30 days or less left on that stamp (so in Sept some time).

You could apply for it based on being over 50 (retirement) like you did last time by either banking 800K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 3 months prior to your application OR by getting the notarized affidavit of income from abroad letter from your consulate stating you get over 65k baht a month in income from abroad.

You could change the reason for your extension to marriage if you wanted to.

The financial requirements for an extension based on marriage are 400K baht banked in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months prior to your application being filed OR a notarized affidavit of income from abroad letter from your consulate stating you get 40K baht a month in income.

While the financials are less, the documentation is way more. AND applications for extensions based on marriage go under consideration for 30 days (during which the immigration officers can come and do an in home visit <- more common up country) before you go back and get the yearly extension inked into your passport.

This is a visa and this is an extension of stay

You don't have a visa at all then :O

What you have is a yearly extension of stay.

Look at your stamp it will clearly say

extension of stay permitted until ..... and have a date

@Thomas ****
I'm in my 3rd visa for an extension based on retirement before haveing a visa extension based on marriage

I've found that retirement option is far less hassle than the marriage option as long as you get a proof of income letter from the consulate Go onto their website and download the nesasary form

@Thomas ****
you can't use the income your wife makes for you to get an extension. You either bank the money OR you get the notarized affidavit of income letter from your consulate.

Remember, while it's rare, the immigration officer CAN ask for proof that the amount you put on the notary letter is actually backed up by something (bank deposits, pension letter, etc).

I personally wouldn't put anything on the letter from your consulate that you can't prove.

yes but I lost the pension been living off savings but i dont meet the requirements but my wife has a good job .

@Thomas ****
right, it's still an extension of stay, look at the stamp in your passport. ;) You need to meet the financial requirements to get extensions of stays
Thomas *****

yes but I had to show proof of income to get it through a pension and be 50 years old

okay thank you so what do I do in October
Tod *********
@Thomas ****
Nope, you have a year-long extension of stay AND you have a multiple re-entry permit.

You can't buy a year long, multi-entry Non-O visa inside the country.
Thomas *****
ORIGINAL POSTER
it is a multi entry permit good for one year

well I have a stamp that says there is

There is no such thing :/

There are several things that are commonly referred to as a retirement visa (even though no such visa exists) :O

Did you get this 'retirement visa' inside of thailand or outside of thailand at a thai consulate in your country BEFORE you came here.

That will narrow down the answers some.
