Hello, I entered with a U.S. passport, assumed I could stay for 90 days with the extension process. Due to poor information, now I need to get a 30 day tourist visa. How do I get a visa while in the country ? Thai immigration told me to go to the U.S. Embassy in BKK, but their web site says they dont issue these visas.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster initially entered Thailand on a U.S. passport under a visa exempt stamp, which allows a 30-day stay that can be extended for another 30 days. However, they are seeking a longer stay and have received conflicting information about obtaining a tourist visa while in the country. Comments clarify that they cannot apply for a tourist visa from within Thailand and that the U.S. Embassy does not issue Thai visas. They suggest either leaving Thailand to obtain a new visa exempt stamp or, if married to a Thai, applying for a family extension at immigration.

If you are married to a Thai you can get a 60 day visit Thai family extension, assuming you haven't done that already. Go with your wife and marriage certificate to immigration and ask them

Ok guys, got the 30 day extension, no problem. For the family extension, They did say I have to register our marriage certificate with the Thai Embassy… Soooo, is this a trip to Bangkok ? or is something that needs to be done in the US ?

if you weren't married in Thailand I think you need to get it authenticated by your embassy then you can go to the amphur and get a Thai certificate

If you arrived without a visa, you would have received a 30 day visa exempt stamp. This is eligible for a single 30 day extension. That is 60 days total. If you wanted more time you should have applied for a tourist visa before you traveled. You cannot apply for a tourist visa while you're already in Thailand. The US embassy has absolutely nothing to do with Thai visas. They are a US government agency.

If you need more time then you'll need to leave Thailand and return to get a new visa exempt stamp.
