We purchased flights to Thailand a few months ago that will have us in Thailand for 31 days.

We enter Thailand 25 September from Vietnam and leave for Australia 25 October which is 31 days.

What are our best options given the visa changes effective September 15?

Willl we be given a grace period given it is just one day?
Answer summary
Travelers arriving in Thailand on September 25 for a 31-day stay face potential visa issues due to recent changes effective September 15. With a 30-day visa limit, options include accepting a small fine for overstaying by one day or applying for a 60-day tourist visa. Many community members suggest that the overstay fine (500 THB) is often waived for under 24 hours, but caution is advised due to new rules. Overall, it is recommended to apply for a tourist visa or prepare for minor fines due to the slight overstay.

They realize people booked with the 60 day stamp still alive there’s no fine just a small stamp And nothing is going to happen in this situation even if the Thai Marines surround your hotel 😎😎😎

25 September...i believe that it is 30 day limit. Find out whether you can cross the border to a neighbouring country a week before the expiry, then, return with a new stamp.

Overstays of less than 24 hours when departing from the airport, fine will be waived. The time is counted when you stamp out of immigration, not your flight departure time.

What time does your flight arrive? If it’s at night just don’t go through immigrant till after midnight , same type of scenario for when you leave

Well you have a good reason to overstay as plans made before the latest change to visa excempt. Maybe look at tourist visa if time permits.

Graeme Drake So your personal plan take precedent over a foreign country’s immigration laws ? What about the guy who had assumed 60 days stay with visa on arrival and now it’s 30 days and too late to apply for any tourist visa?

chooserich007 no as many have said 1 day will probably get waved as flights booked before the change, plus if looked at what I said advised if time permits apply for tourist visa

Well

Problem will be your airline carrier.

1 day overstay you need not to pay the fine of 500 baht... but get a nice stamp in your passport 😎

Michael Carrucan not true if only one day under 24 hours often its waived

You can choose between a 500 Baht fine for overstay one day, or going to the immigration office in Thailand and extend for about 1900 Baht ( I would do so, because than you have no troubles the next time)
Nigel ***********
Nigel ***********
Christian Schürz they wont have troubles anyway for just one day overstay and most likely fine will be waived for one day as its often is

depends on.... I paid, but for me it was no problem, because it was 25 years ago, when everything was easier, now with the new rules I don´t know how strict they are.

Don't worry. One day overstay wouldn't cause any problem. I have an overstay stamp in my passport (also one day) and never experienced any issues of re-entering since then.

Of course you can also apply for a tourist visa or for an extension but to be honest, I wouldn't do that in this exceptional situation.

Draming too much.

Either

A) get tourist visa aprox 35€ equivalent

B ) get 30 days for free and extend for another 30 days for 1900 baht

C) not recommended is to pay 500 baht daily fine for overstay

No !!!

weight up the cost of a 30 day extension vs. an overstay fine.

the 30 day extension just wins financially however immigration, on exit, may wave the overstay fine .

Ian Ramsay talking rubbish
Graham *******

Ian Ramsay Overstay is 500 THB per day so they would pay 500 THB at most but most likely will be waived as it it often is for less than one day overstay. So 30 extension does not win financially as that is 1900 THB plus transport to immigration plus time and convenience.

Dont worry about it. Don't let to doom mongers here scare you into getting an extension or changing your plans, everyone that's done it knows 1 day overstay is not a problem.
Graham ******
Graham ******
James Mitchell It's ok as long as you don't get stopped at a police checkpoint or at a bar during a check. Read ALL of this before offering overstay advice.

Graham Seal I don't see '1 day' on there, you've been here long enough to know the score, why are you parrotting the doom merchants?

James Mitchell Why is it doom mongers while you are advising it is ok to overstay 1 day and break the law. If it is ok 1 day, why not 2 days or 1 week? Maybe the visa change should be 29 days and 1 day grace period.

If you are near a border crossing go over for the day or fly up to Cambodia or Laos and visit the sites for a few days. Problem solved.

The clock starts when you are actually stamped in (day one) and finishes when you are stamped out, so what are your actual flight times? As
@Jo**
said, an overstay of less than 24 hours doesn't usually attract a fine (500 baht a day each). I had an early morning flight out once on day 31, but I managed to get through passport control before midnight, so no overstay.

There's not a grace period as such so you will have a one day overstay. So you will get a small stamp in your passport but as it's only 1 day the overstay fine should be waved
