I was at Bangkok Bank yesterday at the branch where I opened my account to unlock my account. The bank staff told me to wait 7-10 business days. But I also overheard another bank staff telling another customer 1-2 weeks. Who really knows 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thailand's banking sector has been rattled by evidence of fraud discovered in one bank in particular. It's set off a chain reaction and reset, on personal accounts, phone numbers and SIM's linked to account, and daily transaction amounts. This is what happens when certain groups abuse the banking systems, and bank officers become tempted with incentives.

Im in the same boat, still locked out of account, you will get alot of people making rude comments, and they think they know everything that's going on when they truly don't. Yes I used an agent to open bank account and retirement visa , I think what triggered mine is Sim card not matching my nameI did go in 4 months ago and thought that i got that fixed through bank. But I guess someone didn't do something correctly.

I called that 1333 number went through prompts and found out mine was saying suspended due to Sim card, so I went in today and got slip of paper showing my name my number my address . Will take that back to bank tomorrow. To see if that's why Im still locked out since last Monday.

Thailand wont support their own people let alone foreigners/expats… What are you expecting, Them to treat like royalty and pay for everything? A massive life lesson to be learnt here.

Have a Main Bank Account from your home country, Set up a Bank Account again where ever you’re staying and then just transfer what need over… Basic Common Sense.

if you mean frozen by the bank for 4 months surely that's not an issue as the conditions for getting a 12 month extension requires the balance to be 800k for 5 months

Plus there is no context to why he has had his account locked…

And the 25K is for Certain Visa’s only yes. I know and understand that, But use your common sense, If you only have that available to use and you have been locked out? Where do you expect to get funds from if you are stuck in a position where you’re unable to survive!

Actually for me, I am not worry about living when bank freeze my account in thai bank. Bangkok bank as well. I am on retirement visa for one year extension, so I need to put over 800,000 THB in a thai bank, probably in Bangkok bank. Still it is not easy at all to open another thai bank account. I do not know why? even I am on retirement visa. so it is. For me, only bangkok bank is available for my visa things. I have some other cards from outside of thailand, that I can also use too. However, I planed to live for long time in Thailand. So I moved here. Yes, I want to make Thailand my second home or home. But, if the bank like this in Thailand, sudden death of my accounts, life here seems really difficult. And how can I put considerable amount of money that I have in Thai bank? For the long term, I would move my money to Thailand, so that I can live like locals. For tourists or short term stayers, this problem is not big at all. They just can use some other tools to live on in Thailand. But if someone like me planed to live in thailand for long term or until die, They need to move their money to Thailand some day in future. My concern is now, how to extend my visa next year with bangkok bank? and how sure I can be with my deposit over 800,000 THB? What if the immigration rejected bangkok bank statements? And even I can extend my visa, but how sure I can put my all money to the bank in Thailand?? Honestly, for retirees especially, people like me, living mostly with savings and old, this bank issue is really important. Keeping the savings is a big issue for us too. However, if thai bank, especially bangkok bank will do things like this, it is really worrying for me and maybe this can change my whole life plan too. The bank is a trust and credit. so without this, there is no bank. The bank must show they are trustful to the customers. But, if BKB does jobs like this, suddenly freezing the account for no clear reason, how can I trust the bank? Is this actually bank?

Yes and No, Why would they be remotely concerned in the slightest if you are unable to financially support yourself if your bank account has been frozen.

I just don’t understand the point of the Original Post. If anybody is ranting its the Author. No questions or Advice was wanted. Just somebody complaining about his Bank Account being Frozen and now he has no-way of supporting himself.

This topic has been posted and discussed across many facebook groups I belong to. There have been quite a number of people with accounts frozen who have been with the Bank many years up to 20 odd from memory, who have always had the appropriate documentation and requirements but were caught up in this mess. Not sure what logarithm or logic the bank is using to freeze accounts, but it has been painfully obvious many innocent people swept up in this mess.

Staff at the Pattaya branch were selling accounts to Chinese customers who were using the accounts for money laundering. Visa agents have been opening accounts in Pattaya to fraudulently assist expats on retirement visas to bypass financial criteria implemented by Thai immigration.

This is why accounts held by foreigners on tourist visas are being systematically closed down, and why accounts which show visa agent abuse are also being closed or are being frozen with the required funds held for four months to discourage agents from using their services

Block the account , freeze or whatever , but , allow the account holder to withdraw THEIR MONEY , at the branch with their book. Block the phone app or w/e but allow access to the account holders money. Ok Max .
