Hey all,

My passport is expiring in March 2026. I have a DTV visa, and traveling in and out of Thailand frequently. My DTV visa is valid until 2029. How do I go about renewing passport?

I would prefer to renew passport in my home country, which I visit frequently.

Thanks in advance

Answer summary

To renew your passport while holding a DTV visa, you can do so in your home country. After receiving your new passport, when you enter Thailand, carry both your old and new passports. Immigration will check the old passport for the visa number, but will place the entry stamp in the new passport. Additionally, you should visit your local immigration office in Thailand with both passports to complete the necessary transfer forms (TDAC form).

You will need to go to your local Sotomor (immigration office) with the old passport and new passport and have it exchanged there

Transfer form needs to be filled out

You just renew your passport however you want. Then when you enter Thailand you carry both your old passport and your new passport. They will look at your old passport to make sure it matches the passport number on your visa, but they will put your entry stamp into your new passport. Continue carrying both passports until your DTV expires.
