Should I renew my passport before applying for a Thai DTV visa?

My passport expires in 2027. Should I renew my passport (10 years validity) then apply for DTV? How much hassle is it to have DTV attached to an old passport? Just have to bring 2 passports every time you enter Thailand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses whether one should renew their passport, which expires in 2027, before applying for a DTV visa in Thailand. Several commenters suggest that renewing the passport before applying is wise due to potential complications, including needing to carry both the old and new passports when entering Thailand. They share personal experiences indicating that having DTV attached to an old passport is manageable, as they have successfully carried and used two passports without issues at immigration.

I had 1 year left on my passport when I applied for the DTV. I just carry both passports with me, no problems at all.

Always carry two passports

Show to IO old passport visa page but stamp in new book.

This is what I always did without any issue. Cheer!

I've had previous Thai visas transferred over with a stamp at immigration. Don't see why this would be any different.

Question to the people saying "renew now": does your country allow you to renew when there's more than 1 year of validity left? Mine doesn't, unless all pages are already full.

Renew BEFORE applying! I have been stuck in Vietnam for almost 2 months because they wanted me to have more time on my passport and it's been ridiculous working with the embassy here.

more time? Is your passport expiring within 6 months? That is normal requirement for entering any country except for your own country.
