Will entering Thailand on a new passport while my DTV is associated with my old passport cause issues?

Hey team, I'd like to apply for DTV now via e-visa in my home country of Australia, go on a 3 week international trip I have scheduled with the current passport in December, then return from that trip and apply for a new passport around January 2nd, then travel to Thailand in mid-February. All flights are already booked, and I can’t miss the 3-week trip in December.

Will entering Thailand on a new passport while the DTV is associated with the old passport cause an issue? I’ve previously had a Thai visa on an old passport, so I just traveled with both passports while that visa was valid. Would it be the same with the DTV even though there won’t be a physical visa in my passport?

TLDR: My passport expires in mid-June 2025 and I’d strongly prefer to apply for my DTV BEFORE I receive a new passport, so I don’t have to cancel my flight and lose money. I assume the DTV will carry over to my new passport once I get it, but can anyone confirm?

TLDR : Answer Summary
This inquiry revolves around the application and entry procedures related to the Digital Thailand Visa (DTV) when changing passports. The user plans to apply for their DTV via e-visa before obtaining a new passport and seeks clarity on whether entering Thailand with a new passport, while the DTV is linked to the old one, will pose any complications. Comments suggest that the user should carry both passports and the DTV approval letter for entry.

You'll need to use both passports and your printed DTV approval letter to enter. The entry/exit stamps will be put in the new passport.

Super, thank you for that. Would that mean carrying the old passport for the next five years?

Anonymous participant Probably unless they will accept a laminated ID Card size copy - that can be used to get around the legal requirement (That nobody follows) of foreigners needing to carry passport at all times :-)

Anonymous participant As I said on other reply - you could try a Credit Card sized laminated copy. I have one and used it in a few places - obv not for entry though.
