Has anyone else gotten this request and what did you do? I don't have any money just sitting in my bank doing nothing, it's all in stocks. If I sell 500,000THB of stocks and deposit into my bank will they accept that? Seems like a ridiculous waste of time

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for the Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) in Thailand, applicants must prove financial stability by providing bank statements that show a balance of 500,000 THB in a checking or savings account for at least six months. Selling stocks or crypto assets to meet this requirement is common, but it is crucial that the funds are liquid and not held in investments. Many users in the discussion have shared their experiences and emphasized that only cash in bank accounts will satisfy the visa requirements.

With all the complicated issues surrounding the DTV, one clear thing is you need 500k baht equivalent in a checking or savings account to show them.
Mauro *****
No one can pay rent or buy food with crypto in Thailand.
Rob *********
@Mauro ****
no correct, you can use for example a revolut card and pay with stable coin or crypto.com etc etc , and can buy in 711, and many super markets
Gary *******
Has anyone here obtained the DTV with just a "sponsorship letter"? Any details, e.g. what are the requirements of the sponsor?
Christopher ********
Why is this so hard for people ? I don’t get it.
Sefton ********
Its the requirement !! What did we do ?? We complied !!

500k thb is such a low bar for a 5 year visa.. and still theres people trying to get around it.
Brian ****
500k baht is 41k per month for a year. They need to make sure you can support yourself with CASH or equivalent. This is a normal requirement for most countries visas and investments like stocks/crypto aren't cash. You could try borrowing against your stock and deposit 500k in savings.
Steven *******
Is this for soft power, or remote work?
Craig *******
I had a letter written from my portfolio company that said I had $Xxxxx in assets. They didn’t say stocks etc. that’s what I used.
Sefton ********
@Craig ******
which embassy, most seem to want a fiat balance bank statement.
Craig *******
@Sefton *******
I applied through the embassy in Los Angeles
Rene ********
Of course they will accept only hard cash in your Bank account
Rob *********
Mate I had that issue in Penang, a few months ago, they don't want crypto or stock.
Matt *********
Waste of $15k , better of doing border runs and keep it in stocks/crypto
Todd *********
@Matt ********
it’s not a waste. Transfer it in for application, then transfer it out
Toni *******
I did that and waited month to change to get the new statement
Robert ***********
Everytime I see an embassy asking for 6 months of statements I appreciate the streamlining of the NYC Consulate. 🙂
Romain ****
Dead simple ; you need to show 6 months of bank statements showing that you have the 500k฿ in current or saving accounts, not in crypto and such, if you can’t show this it was not even worth applying, you don’t qualify. So you can sell stocks and crypto worth 500k฿ and apply again in 6 months
Rob *********
@Romain ***
Do you need to keep 500k for 6 months ? That's ridiculous, the money I make with my company is in my company businesses account, in the personal one I use to have much less than 500k 😂, who wants to have 500k dying in a personal bank account?
Bryan ********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Romain ***
I was under the impression you can reapply immediately, what makes you think there's a 6 month waiting period?
Romain ****
@Bryan *******
totally agreed with previous comment : some places are fine with just the final value being 500k. But that’s just random chance and interpretation. Feel free to try
Todd *********
@Bryan *******
I would simply ignore Romain. Doesn’t need to be 6 months. Doesn’t need to be 6 hours. The requirement is 500k cash in an account. Doesn’t matter how long it’s been there
Cissi *********
@Bryan *******
if I were you I would sell stocks and transfer it to your bank account to meet the requirement of 500k in a personal bank account, then submit 6 month of bank statements showing the current balance over 500k. They might reject it, but what do you have to loose? If rejected, you keep the money in your bank account and re-apply at another embassy. Search in this group to find an embassy that approves the money to be in the account less time. There are some embassies that appove applications as long as the current balance is over 500k.
Dennis *********
@Cissi ********
that is applying three times
Cissi *********
@Dennis ********
no, he was asked to submit this to his initial application. My suggestion was to do that. IF they would reject it, due to not having the money in his account long enough, I suggested to make a 2nd application elsewhere. What other choice does he have according to you? 🤔
Dennis *********
@Cissi ********
I don’t want to guess. Because it does say 6 months of proof in bank but people have done with one. It’s a gamble trying with one but might work
Cissi *********
@Dennis ********
I'm not sure you understand my comment. He had already applied and it is not a gamble to submit the requested additional information... It isn't like he have any choice! If he doesn't have any 6 month bank statement showing 500k for every month, he can still send 6 month statements showing a current balance of 500k. Either it will be approved or rejected... IF rejected and he really wants the DTV, he has to re-apply and if so, I suggested that he apply in an embassy that DO approve as long as the current balance is above 500k. He can use the search function in this group for that information.

@Cissi ********
this is likely what I'll do. Thanks for the advice 🙏
Romain ****
@Bryan *******
are you unable to understand this very basic English request ?

Latest 6 months balance totaling not less than
*****
0 baht.!!!
Achanster ******
@Romain ***
u r so bad mannered!
Romain ****
@Achanster *****
is it bad mannered to give facts from feedbacks seen at various embassies ??
Adam ********
@Romain ***
just apply at HMCM in Vietnam, they only require the 500,000baht as end balance
Victoria ******
@Romain ***
do you have a DTV? Because that is NOT what the request is saying there is no need to wait 6 months. He needs to provide 6 months of statements but only the current balance needs to be the 500k thb. He can transfer in the account and immediately submit.

Such a nasty reply and so wrong
Luit *****************
@Victoria *****
that depends on interpretation, some embassies want to see the money for a longer time.

Why would they ask for 6 months and only look at the last month?

When the previous 5 would have no influence, why would they ask?

@Romain ***
Thanks! :)
Andi ***********
I did the same and many others too, sell investments and transfer to a bank account to meet the DTV requirement, there is no way around it unless you borrow the 500k.
John ********
Did anyone see the documentary about the guy, I think he was Canadian m, but can't swear on that. Anyway he was flying passenger commercial aircraft on bent pilots licence. Hee was found out eventually but the thought of being eight miles high with an ex truck driver at the controls oooh! Scary.

@Andi **********
good to hear, I was worried they'd have an issue with my 6 months of statements showing essentially no balance until suddenly this week there's a 500k deposit
John ********
@Bryan *******
I've read they only want to see the 500k THB or equivalent in any bank account. Ppl have also commented that they aren't concerned where it comes from, all they want to see is a bank statement showing the required balance.
Andi ***********
@Bryan *******
Majority of embassies it is no issue but if applying in Laos you need 500K banked for 3 months, Malaysia is similar I believe
Bryan ********

@Andi **********
Hmm I'm applying from Vietnam. I'll hope for the best. Thanks for the info!
Andi ***********
@Bryan *******
Vietnam is ok with the final balance of 500k and several months statements so you will be ok
Dan *******
They want to see real money, not pretend money
Hasan ***********
@Dan ******
you used advanced tech (the modern day cellphone) to comment on this but yet you can’t comprehend crypto and call it pretend money? Do not be salty because you heard of it when it was $1000 and now that’s 90k+ you are trying to cope.

As for the OP, you’re gonna have to cashout 500k THB to your personal account. It doesn’t have to be 6 months, a lot of the embassy’s accept 1 month or ending balance statement such as HCMC
Milo *********
@Dan ******
fiat currency is printed endlessly - the very definition of pretend money.
Rob *********
@Milo ********
some people still do not understand that fiat can go cero as well.
Luit *****************
@Rob ********
but it is all about chances, when you prove 500K with Argentinian pesos, the chance they are less than 500K in a year is much bagger than when you prove with US dollars.

But for some reason thai baht gets more expensive against almost all valuta, so maybe in some time nobody wants DTV anymore because Thailand is simply to expensive, with over 6 percent a year that does not need to take long.
Kirilly **********
The assumption is that you'd be living off that balance, so you need to play along.
Elías ********
That's the requirement. Nothing can be done about that.
Lachlan **********
yeah that’s what i did
Bryan ********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Lachlan *********
that's good to hear! So essentially your bank account didn't have the 500,000 thb until right before your application right? I'm just surprised they want this whole song and dance of us moving it from 1 account to another
Luit *****************
@Bryan *******
In fact they want to see you have enough savings you can use when you got unforeseen trouble and expenses in Thailand.

They do not want you to temporary have those savings, but there is not (yet) a requirement to keep the savings.

When they asks for six months and normally you don't have close to 500K, they might think you only put the 500K there to get the visa.
Dennis *********
@Bryan *******
just one statement

So need to time it based on next statement date
Wesley ********
You need to prove you have money to live. It’s not a huge amount of money. They just wanna see it liquid.
Elías ********
@Wesley *******
and it's one of the written requirements, also, so it shouldn't be a surprise for any applicant.
John *******
Yes, stock accounts don’t count. Always needed to be savings or checking account
