Hi, very new and confused about the visas. I am British and have nearly used my first 90 day visa that I brought with me. Do I now fill in form TM 7 for an extension for another 30 days? Then I'm not leaving here until th 31st of March So after the 30 day extension am I the required to do a visa run and then apply for another 90 day visa? TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
A British citizen with a Tourist TR visa, which allows a 60-day stay in Thailand, can apply for a 30-day extension at an immigration office. It is crucial to check the entry stamp in your passport as it defines the actual allowed duration of stay. If the current stay nears expiration, the individual must either extend or exit Thailand. After the extension, a visa run is needed to re-enter Thailand with a new 60-day visa exemption stamp, which can also be extended by another 30 days. Applying for a new visa prior to exiting is not necessary for UK passport holders, as they can enter under the visa exemption rule.

If you check your entry stamp in the passport you will see the date you must leave by or purchase an extension

so if you got a 60-days stay permit until November 30, you can extend it on Immigration for 1900.- THB for 30 more days, carrying you until 30 December. Then, BEFORE the extension expires on December 30, you will need to exit Thailand. Thus, let's say, if you stay abroad for 9 days, and return to Thailand without a visa, on January 8th, you will get stamped in visa-exempt for 60 days until March 7th. You will need another 30-days extension to get carried until your return flight on March 31st . . . . applying for another 60-days single entry tourist visa on a Thai Embassy/Consulate abroad, won't cut the ice, it would actually result in the same amount of days admitted stay permit
Chris *******
As a UK citizen you did not need a visa for 60 days.

You will exit as your extension expires and reenter with just a tourist visa exempt stamp for 69 days.

Which you can then extend for 30 days.

you can get an extension of 30 days , if you're already on overstay , then you need to leave , pay the fine ( 500bt a day) and then you can return . UK citizens get 60 days visa exemption, everytime they enter Thailand, so no need to buy a TR visa.

Valid from 10th of Sept 24 to 08 December 24 = 89 days

This is the range of dates within which you can enter Thailand. You could then stay 60 days, and extend that by another 30 days at an Immigration Office. At that point you would need to leave Thailand for a period (an hour/day) and get a 60 day visa-free stamp when you come back in. You can then extend that by another 30 days, as before. Rinse and repeat, until a border official thinks you may not be a genuine tourist

so if 30 November will be 60 days since your TR visa was stamped into your passport (on the day you arrived in Thailand), you can go to an immigration office and get one extension of your visa for 30 days more on top of that 60 days. After that you will need a new visa altogether.

watch your wording: She did not get a "visa stamped into her passport". She got a 60-days stay permit stamped into her passport. The Tourist Visa she used for entering Thailand, became invalid when she entered . . . However your advice regarding re-entering Thailand after a stay in, for example, Cambodia, is correct.
@Lynda *******
does not need to apply for another 60-days Tourist Visa by the E-Visa online system in Phnom Penh , she can enter visa-exempt, will be stamped in for a 60-days stay permit, and can extend for 30 more days

thanks, when I do need a new visa, we do the visa run, do we need to apply on line for it when we are out of Thailand

You don’t need a new visa, just go for a small holiday, Angkor Wat is almost a must! f.ex, or Penang. When you re-enter you get a 60day visa excempt stamp for free. This can later be extended for another 30 days for Baht 1.900,

Thanks Erik, I agree, we went to Angkor Wat and it was amazing. We've been looking at prices to go back to Penang

there was actually no need for you to have spent money to apply for the tourist visa, as it only grants the same 60 day stay (+30 day extension from immigration offices in Thailand) as visa exempt entries for UK passport holders. It serves no purpose to normal tourists since they changed visa exempt entry from 30 to 60 days in mid-July.

as a citizen of the UK you could leave the country and return for 60 days using a visa exemption entry. This is not a visa - it is a visa exemption entry and does not need an application at all - you just arrive and present your passport. This visa exemption entry can also be extended at an immigration office once for an additional 30 days.

@Lynda *******
What applies is the date stamped IN your PASSPORT then if you have entered on a tourist visa for 60 days. So you need to go to Immigration and apply for an Extension for another 30 days before your current 60 days expire which costs 1,900 Baht

What is written on the visa doesn't matter. The visa was used as soon as you entered Thailand. Now what matters is the stamp they put into your passport when you crossed into Thailand. That is what tells you how long you are allowed to stay. That stamp would only be for 60 days. And you can get a single 30-day extension giving 90 days total. But if you're already almost at 90 days and haven't gotten an extension, you would be on overstay.

You need to check your entry stamp in your passport, while you might have a '90 day visa', this only means it has a life of 90 days ("use by"), on a tourist visa they would only stamp you in (allowed to stay) for 60 days.

Hi Brandon, my visa type from the UK is a Tourist TR, thank you for taking the time to reply

you have 60 days upon entry and you can extend for another 30 days 1900 baht at your immigration then you’ll have to leave you can re enter with a free 60 day exempt stamp and you can extend that for 30 more 1900 baht

I guess its not a tourist visa. A tourist visa is either 60 days single entry or 180 days multiple entry. To my knowledge there is no 90 days tourist visa.
Brandon ************
What visa did you buy from the embassy before you traveled to Thailand? If you indeed had a 90 day visa then you most likely had a non-O visa and there is no 30 day extension available for that. The 30 day extension is only available if you're on a tourist entry which means tourist visa or visa exempt entry.

A non-O visa can only get a 1 year extension after meeting all the requirements.

The tourist visa is for 60 days not 90. What visa are you on?

you are confused. That visa is only 60 days, then you can extend it for another 30 days. I think your confusion is in the fact that you had 90 days in which to use it by entering Thailand. If you actually look at your entry stamp in your passport it will be for 60 days, not 90 days.
