What should I do about my Non-O visa re-entry issue and aligning visa dates with my child's in Thailand?

Non- O visa Re-entry.

When we got our 1 year visa in October my husband thought he paid for a single re-entry. When I came back from Japan today I found out he did not 😭. I assume there is no way to fix this retroactively?

I’m willing to fly out and redo my visa (guardian visa). Will my child need to come with me to do this? His is still valid.

Also, my 3 kids and husband have visas that renew in October.

Can I in theory leave the country a couple times and come back and then apply closer so our visa dates line up? I have a 60 day tourist visa already and am already planning to go to Singapore in June and Indonesia in October

Or can I renew mine early so all our dates are together? We live in Bangkok and would love to avoid going to Chaeng Wattana as much as possible.

This is a learning curve as we have previously had a business visa and they did all this for us.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster has encountered an issue with their Non-O visa due to not obtaining a re-entry permit. They are considering reapplying for a guardian visa and are uncertain if their child needs to accompany them for this process. The discussion includes important information on visa procedures, such as that extensions are tied to the main applicant's visa expiration, and the necessity of consulting with the child's school for required documents. Several community members clarify distinctions between a visa and an extension, emphasizing that the period of validity aligns with the main applicant's visa if applying for an extension.

How did you get a one year non-o visa?

it’s a guardian visa. My 3 kids attend an international school in Bangkok and my visa was tied to my youngest and my husband’s is tied to our older 2 kids. It also requires us each to have ฿500,000 in a bank account for 90 days before applying. Thankfully we just leave it there, so that isn’t an issue.

you need to understand the difference between a VISA (which is for 90 days no matter if you get it inside or outside the country) and an extension of stay that you get at the immigration office and can be issued for a year at a time. You had a 90 day visa, you got a year extension and as you said you didn't get a re-entry permit so cancelled that extension when you left.

You are right, there is no way to retrieve an extension without a re-entry permit after you leave Thailand. You need to do whole the visa process from scratch again.

Check the embassy where you want to apply for your visa through about whether you need to take your child (main applicant) or not.

Talk to the school that your child is enrolled in for your visa process. You need documents from them to apply for a Non-O for supporting a foreign child with a legal stay permit. And documents may vary depending on the location you will apply to, the embassy or immigration office.

Your expiry of the extension will not be different regardless of when you apply. You will get 90 days from an initial Non-O visa (by either the embassy or the immigration office). And when you apply for an extension at the end of a 90-day stay, your extension is matched to the main applicant's (your child's) extension. Yours cannot be any longer than the main applicant's.

Firstly, talk with the school. Then sort your route to apply for an initial Non-O visa for a dependent/guardian of your child.

I had the visa through the school, so I’m familiar with the process. I had done the 90 day extension and my next 90 day report. I know what documents to get and will go back to KL as I know the process as we did it last July.

I will check with Malaysia and ask if he needs to be there as we all went last July.

That’s good to know that my stuff will be matched to my child’s paperwork.

Let me make sure I’m understanding this correctly. If my child’s visa expires in October and I was to get mine next month even thought mine wouldn’t expire till next year it will line up with his?

Thank-you for your help.

, Your visa will not be valid until next year. Non-O visa gives you only 90 days.

If you applied for an initial Non-O visa through the embassy/consulate and entered Thailand in April, your first 90 days will be until July. You need to apply for an extension in July and you will be given an extension until October.

I did mine in KL last year and didn’t need to take my kids :)

And yes they will only give you a visa that is to the duration of your child’s so in your case until October.
