Hello all,
I need some advice!
I obtained a O visa from Penang based on being father of a Thai child last year. The visa expires on the 8th April.
I was stamped in for 90 days as usual on the 5th March.
I went to Jomtien immigration to apply for a 1 year visa extension, I was given a paper in Thai explaining what documents they required.
I went back the next day with all paperwork.
Here is when my problems started, firstly the woman (not the immigration officer) was livid all the papers were not sorted in 2โs!!
She then sent us on our way as it was too early to apply for a visa extension and pointed to the exit date stamp which was the 2nd of June.
My partner asked how can this be since the expiry date for the visa is April 8th. She said I must go get a re entry permit!!!
A re-entry permit for a visa extension!!??
We went to information who could not confirm anything so we went to the desk for re-entry permits.
She was much more helpful so here is where my questions begin:
I will fly out on the 14th March and back 26th March this will be my last trip before my visa expires. My information is that the 90 days from my last entry before the visa expires is the cutoff date for the visa extension and to apply for the extension must be done nearer this date. My problem is I fly in and out of Thailand twice a month.
What happens when I fly out after Songkran and my visa has expired?? And I am not able to apply for a extension because it is too far away from the cut off date???
What is the procedure in a situation like this?
Many thanks and if Tod Daniels or Robert Lagas has a minute to go over this I would be extremely grateful!
Many thanks ๐
TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has an O visa linked to being the father of a Thai child, expiring on April 8th, and is confused about the visa extension process. After attempting to extend the visa at Jomtien immigration, they encountered issues regarding document organization and the necessity of a re-entry permit, which they did not expect. Planning to leave Thailand and return within a month, they are concerned about applying for an extension once their visa expires and the implications of frequent travel on their ability to apply for an extension.
