ORIGINAL POSTER
Help! I forgot to get a re-entry permit at the airport in the chaos, and left overseas already ๐Ÿ˜ญ

I'm currently halfway through a type O visa extension based on marriage.

I'm due to arrive back in a week from the USA. I'm a NZ passport holder.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster (O/P) forgot to obtain a re-entry permit before departing Thailand, resulting in the loss of their ongoing type O visa extension based on marriage. Commenters clarified that the extension is invalidated upon exiting without a re-entry permit. The suggested options for the O/P include entering Thailand on a visa-exempt basis as a New Zealand passport holder for 45 days and then applying for a new 90-day Non-O visa. Following this, they will be able to apply for a yearly extension and obtain a re-entry permit for future travels. Overall, the conversation emphasized the importance of securing a re-entry permit to avoid complications.

I just wanted to thank all the people who commented on this question. (y) (y)

It's hard to get a consensus about visa stuff but every one of you nailed it. .. .

Thank you one and all ๐Ÿ™‚

I think the O/P has an idea now of their options..

As Tod says , Many moons ago I was unaware of the reentry thing . Had a non 0 . Basically I had to start the process all over again . Needless to say . Itโ€™s something you donโ€™t do twice .

Some people have lost permanent residency this way! Even PR holders need a re-entry permit.

Your extension lapsed when you departed Thailand and is no longer valid. If you wish to return to Thailand your only option is to start again from scratch. Good luck.

One lesson from this. Always get a re-entry permit. I never leave the local immigration without a valid re-entry permit. Its only 30 minutes more and 1000 baht for a single re-entry permit (3800 for a multiple). Better safe then sorry.

For now there is nothing to do about it.

there is no help ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Sadly (for you), you lost that extension when you stamped out of the country without a re-entry permit. That's how it works

You can come in visa exempt as a kiwi, get stamped in for 45 days then during that time apply for a new 90 day Non-O visa for 2000baht, wait for the review period, get the visa and new 90 day stamp inked in, wait 2 months and then apply for a new yearly extension for 1900baht, get the 30 day under consideration stamp, go back on that date get the new year extension inked in and BUY a re-entry permit
