Good morning,

My husband has a 90 days non O guardian visa until August 14. He must travel out of Thailand during the 90 days due to a family issue. He went to the local immigration office to request a Re-entry permit. They informed him that it is not possible to get it from a local office but only at the airport. My husband is very nervous to wait until his departure date because he can't take the risk to not be able to come back.

So I need advises please on the below:

1/ Is it possible to get a Re-entry permit for his case in another local immigration office? If so which one?

2/ Is it a smooth or risky process to get the Re-entry permit at the Suva airport?

What would you advise?

Thank you so much as usual for your support!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on obtaining a re-entry permit for her husband's non-O guardian visa. According to community responses, permits can generally not be issued at a different local immigration office but can be obtained at Suvarnabhumi Airport. It is advised to plan for extra time at the airport to secure the permit quickly and ensure all necessary documents are prepared in advance, especially a TM8 form, passport copies, and a photo, to avoid extra fees.

This is the TM8 form (for a re-entry permit). If you have this, copies of your passport and latest extension or entry stamp and a passport photo they won’t charge you the 200 baht admin fee at the airport, just the 1,000 baht fee.

You don’t need anything other than your passport though if you pay the 200 baht additional fee.

Airport is a breeze. Just have all documents before you arrive. Application, copies ect

We got our re entry permit last December at the airport. You just need to get to the airport early to make sure you dont miss the boarding time. At the passport control, there is a counter at the left side for that. It takes about 15 minutes or less. After you get your re entry permit you can now go to the passport control side. We photo copied our passports ahead of time and provided our own photos so it was quick and paid only 1000 baht per person.

If the visa was issued by a different immigration office then it's likely only possible at the office that issued it.

If it was issued by an embassy then it will be up to the immigration office if they want to issue it.

At Suvarnabhumi you just tell the immigration officer as you are going through passport control that you want to purchase a re-entry permit and they will point you in the right direction. The counter is open 24 hours plan for an extra 15-20 minutes and the cost will be 1200 baht as they'll fill out the forms and take your photo for you.

Thank you so much for the reply. It was issued at the Thai Embassy in Paris. So if I understood well the only option would be at the airport?

it's going to be at the discretion of any immigration office. You can try others but they can just say no if they don't want to fill out the paperwork. The airport should be easy.

Thank you! I assume it won't help to go through an agent. Right?

I've never heard of using an agent just for a re-entry permit, especially since most people do it at the airport.
