Hello all expats!!

Just a quick question, regarding to work permit.

My work permit has expired on June 8th and I have recently just decided to extend my contract with the company. However, again i realized my work permit has expired and my 1 year visa still remains until August 23rd. I have been informed that once a WORK PERMIT has expired there is no option to renew it but rather start the process all over by getting a new Non-B visa and later i can apply for work permit.

Any relevant information would be much appreciated.

THANK YOU

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat is seeking advice about an expired work permit, which expired on June 8, and the implications for their visa that remains valid until August 23. Community members emphasize the serious consequences of working without a valid work permit and highlight that since the work permit has expired, the individual is likely in overstay. They advise applying for a new NON-B visa before being able to apply for a new work permit and warn about potential fines for the overstay.

one last time, you are NOT on a visa :/ You are on OVERSTAY.

You do not have a Visa extension. Forget the word Visa, that is not what you have.

You have an extension of stay. Different laws different ministerium.

A Visa you buy on a consulate or embassy outside thailand. You cannot extend this. Only buy a new outside thailand.

An extension of stay is an extension of the stamp in your passport that says Admitted to. Not an extension of the Visa.

Your extension of stay is not valid after the day you stop working.

Simply put, an extension of stay does not give you right to stay in thailand, if the base for it does not exist. No work permit, then no extension of stay. Date on extension of stay is irrelevant. Date of the work permit IS relevant.

FYI i stopped working with the company on june, i am not working currently but just decided to work again for the company a couple days ago and informed the company that i'd like to extend my contract and will be working soon....

Yes, and it is much better that you report your self to immigration, because then it will stay with fines. If caught, that's another story.

If you hesitate too long before you solve this situation, you will have even bigger problem. If caught working without a working permit is not good. And on top of that is here illegally.. Think. Act.

If caught by police before you leave Thailand, depending of how long overstay it is at that time, beside fines you are facing a situation you no longer can return to Thailand for some years.

Act fast.

You really need to understand the difference between a Visa and an extension of stay. According to your photo, you do not have a visa. Maybe you once had a visa, but that is since long used and invalid. You have an extension of stay as you earlier applied for. An extension of stay based on a work permit is not a visa,

Your extension of stay is dependent of your work permit and is not valid for stay in Thailand after your work permit ended. Hence you are now on overstay, you are in Thailand illegally. This is a serious situation.

The only solution you have is to leave Thailand, to buy a new visa, a Non B visa. Then with this Visa you can return and start the process again with applying for a work permit.

And later based on this apply for a new extension of stay.

Go to the Ministry of Labor and apply for a new Work Permit.

officially seen you are now in overstay from 8th jun, what you can do is get all the documents from your employer, leave Thailand without a re-entry permit, visit a Thai Consulate and apply for a new Non Immigrant B visa and a new Work Permit. When you visit Immigration with this new visa to apply for a new Extension of Stay they might fine you for the overstay 500 Thb a day with maximum 20.000 Thb.

my feelings are good today. So you do not have a 1 year visa BUT as you can read in the second line an Extension of Stay permitted up to 23 Aug 2019. And as this Extension of Stay is based on working you must follow the rules and regulations, you did not check your Work Permit and that became invalid at Jun 08th, on that same day you had to visit the Immigration Office that your Work Permit became invalid and you are not allowed ot work anymore in Thailand and cancel this Extension of Stay at 08th Jun 2019 and leave the country or apply for a new Extension of Stay, cost 1.900 Thb, which will be not approved and you should have got 7 days to leave the country.
