Ed-Visa question : I'm on third yearly extension of stay studying a Bachelors degree. My extension of stay is valid until dec17 and the official end of my last term will be dec7. BUT I'll be done with all courses and really everything for my degree by the end of august. University never had a foreign student before doing an entire degree with them (only some exchange students from china and Cambodia) and zey don't seem to know anything about having to call in with immigration and cancel my extension of stay. They said I can stay until the end of my current stamp. What do you think, if I don't have any more proof of actually studying from August onwards, but technically still am a student until dec7, what should I actually be doing about it. Any thoughts? Thanks y'all, you're always great!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is studying for a Bachelor's degree in Thailand and is concerned about their Ed-Visa extension, which is valid until December 17, although they will complete all courses by the end of August. The university lacks experience with foreign students completing full degrees and is unsure about notifying immigration. A comment advises the user to request a letter from the university stating the end date of their studies and to inform immigration a week prior to that date to avoid potential fines and issues with future visa applications.
You need to ask your school to write a letter saying when the end of your studies are. Whatever the date on this letter is, is when you need to cancel your extension by that date. If they will write you a letter that says Dec 17, or Dec 7, then you can use that.
Regardless of what the letter says, you need to take it and go to immigration about a week before that date to cancel your ED extension. They should cancel it for you then stamp you in for the extra few days until the date on the letter. Then you have until that date to leave Thailand.
You signed a document saying you would inform immigration if your status changed and finishing your studies is a change of status. If you don't cancel your extension, even if you leave after the date runs out, you've failed the agreement you signed and you'll not be able to get another long term extension in Thailand until you get it resolved and you'll also be fined 20,000 baht when you try to do so.
thanks so much, that's really helpful! Do you know what this letter might look like? As mentioned, my university doesn't seem to know anything about it
Henning Leuckert they just need to write a letter with your name, probably passport number, and saying that you were studying but your studies will be complete as of xx/xx/xxxx and have it on the proper letterhead with the proper signatures
