Could someone confirm if this is OK or have I missed some details?

- I am graduating from University

- My last grade will be released by the end of September

- My ED-Visa extension is valid until October 12th

According to my multi source research and understanding, to continue my stay in Thailand I should get a letter from school stating the date of the end of my studies and bring it to immigration to cancel my stay permit. Immigration would give me time to stay until the date stated in the letter from school.

Next I would have to leave Thailand before or on the date stated in letter. I get a Thai tourist visa from another country or fly back in to get the visa exemption on arrival.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To extend your stay in Thailand after graduation on an ED-Visa, you'll need to obtain a letter from your university confirming the end date of your studies and present it to immigration. This will allow you to cancel your current stay permit and receive an extension until the date specified in the letter. Be aware that the immigration officer may stamp the date of your visit rather than the date in the letter, which could affect your stay. After that, you can apply for a Thai tourist visa from another country or re-enter Thailand under a visa exemption.

I did the same. I didn’t need. Nobody asked for.

If I get return ticket bkk-vte-bkk and get 60d tourist visa from vte, do I need to have outbound ticket out of Thailand when arriving back to bkk?

no, BUT there are far cheaper ways to get to the thai consulate in Vientiane rather than flying right into Lao. Most people fly bangkok to udon thani then take the mini van at the airport to the border at Nong Khai.

Plus I don't believe that the direct flights to Vientiane get there in time for you to get to the consulate and turn in your paperwork for the visa. AND the next day they leave before you can get your passport in the afternoon and get to the airport

Take an early morning flight to Udon one day and take the early evening flight from Udon to bangkok the next day and you can do it easily.

Be careful. Sometimes they stamp the day you went to immigration and not the date stated in the letter. Happened to me. Comment officer: No today. I tried to explain but no chance.

I checked my passport again. I went on 5th of June. Stated date was 11th on the letter. booked a flight on 12th to vte. Immigration officer canceled visa 5th (that day)Booked a flight to Singapore 6th. At this morning I got two tickets 90days and one for visa cancellation. The ticket for cancellation was faster than the 90 days report ticket. I think this was my mistake or a bad situation. I don’t know. They told me afterwards you can’t do 90 days report now because your visa is canceled. I tried to explain that the stamp should be 11th not today. but no chance. Just pay overstay was the last word.

If you don't mind me asking, until when was your ED visa dated originally before you went to cancel it?

I tried but no chance. I went on Friday. Date on the letter was on Tuesday and I booked a flight on Wednesday. Showed him. Unfortunately I had to leave next day. Saturday! I don’t know. Bad experience. No chance to explain before or afterwards. Comment officer: just pay overstay.

You should have appealed that,

I know many people who go weeks before the date on the letter and always get their extensions canceled and a new stamp dated the date the letter says they'll stop school.

that is all correct (y)
