Hi!🌴

Currently on a Non-Immigrant ED Visa due to exchange study’s from Sweden at Chulalongkorn University. But the visa expires 31 December 2022.

Is it possible to extend Non-immigrant ED visa even if my master will be finished in December? Or is there any other extensions possible?

We are granted Visa through the school but it expires 31 December. I wanted to stay in Phuket for New Year’s Eve but as it looks like now I have to leave Thailand 31 december and cannot get back until 1 January. If I would leave and come back before 31 December I would still be on the same visa.

Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on a Non-Immigrant ED Visa valid until December 31, 2022, due to a study program at Chulalongkorn University. They inquire about the possibility of extending their visa since their master's program concludes at the same time as their visa expiration. Additionally, they express concern about needing to leave Thailand before New Year’s Eve to avoid visa expiry issues. Comments suggest that the user might explore exiting the country and re-entering under a different visa category, considering their university’s involvement in their visa application.

To clarify, we were given an Non immigrant ED visa upon arrival to Thailand. That’s right now the stamp on the passport, “admitted ( visa class: non ED) 3 August, until 31 October, signed. E-visa”. Then we were given the information from Chula that we had to extend our visa before 31 October at immigration division 1. Therefore we were given a letter which states that “extending visa for foreign exchange students, in this regard the factually of commerce requesting assistance from the immigration office to renew the visa to such students until December 31 2022” (it was in Thai but more or less that what’s on the paper”.

Now when I go to immigration division 1 whit this document, it’s exactly what you said I should do right

? So the only thing left after I’ve done this is to go to the immigration office again and ask them to cancel my extension? What happens when I ask them if they can cancel my extension that suppose to end 31 December? can they cancel it so that the visa runs out for example 20 December? And then I I can leave Thailand and return after 20 December on a 45 day stamp😀

so, GO and apply for the extension when you get the documentation from Chula and get the "extension of stay" stamp until the 31st of Dec,

THEN in December (about 2 weeks before the 31st) get a paper from Chula that says your study ends on the 31st, GO back to the immigration office and cancel the extension (closing the loop on that extension)

and then you can bounce out and back when ever you want to get a new 45 day visa exempt entry stamp

Yes, I was provided with and visa by the school but I applied online, that's correct. Great, thanks a lot for your help, now I think I got it 😃

You need to talk with Chula about your immediate extension as soon as possible to get the documents from them for you to apply for that extension. Documentation might take days, and you have to apply for an extension on or before 31 Oct. You have barely 1 week to do it.

@Malin *******
you are set then (y)

Here's your plan 😛

1 - go get the extension (any time now) as you don't lose days going early

2 - get a paper from Chula in Dec saying your last day is Dec 31st

3 - go to immigrations AFTER the 16th of Dec, cancel the extension, they will stamp you in until the 31st

4 - bounce out and back before the 31st to get a new stamp for 45 days

there is no "given an Non immigrant ED visa upon arrival to Thailand".
@Malin *******
Clearly from you saying "evisa" you BOUGHT the ED visa from the online website from the consulate in your country BEFORE you winged your way here.

That means you're NOT on an extension as I thought (sorry for that) but still on the original 90 day entry stamp you got from the eVisa you applied for before you came here

SO you don't have ANY extension yet,

and

you're supposed to go TO the immigration office with documentation from your school saying you can get an extension until Dec 31st 2022.

All you can get from that extension is a 7 day get out of thailand stamp.

Can I suggest something? Maybe you could cancel the extension of stay beforehand with a letter from the university...then exit the country and return again under visa exemption or tourist visa.
