Hi. I need your advice. My ED visa expires on May 31. But my uni won’t be able to provide its official letter for the visa extension this week. The uni will only issue the letter next week. What should I do in the meantime? I don’t want to overstay in Thailand. Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about their ED visa expiring on May 31 without an extension letter from their university, which will not be available until next week. The community suggests pressing the university for a quick issuance of the letter or visiting Thai Immigration to cancel the current ED visa and apply for a COVID extension, warning against overstaying. They also discuss the necessary documents to bring to the immigration office, including the TM30 notification, passport copies, and possibly a passport photo.

Oh dear. Does that mean I have to leave Thailand? The next semester only starts in August. So no possibility for the COVID extension visa? That means I have to make plans to leave BKK.

I'm not sure if that's the normal way Tod. The current semester ends on May 31 and the next one starts in August. The letter issued by Chula states the semester ends on May 31 and that's what I got for the ED visa. So the visa extension letter's needed for the next semester classes. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

so you are seeking the Ed Visa extension for study which does not start until August? Best Is that normal way to bridge the gap between semesters?

worst case is, they give you "application denied and 7 days to leave the country" stamp. I do not recommend going into overstay

Ok. I'll visit CW Thursday. What are the documents I need to bring? Should I choose ED visa at the counter or COVID extension? Thanks.

I'd try the ED visa counter first, ultimately that's your preferred choice if possible, if you can't get anywhere with them there, you can ask about cancelling the visa as a last resort. Bring as much documentation as possible including TM30 notification of residence from wherever you live. 1900 baht, copies of all relevant pages in your passport. Possibly a passport sized photo or two.

you don't have much choice . . . . you should give it a try, visit Immigration on Thursday and try to cancel your ED just by yourself. And apply for the 60 days covid extension right after

You are in a bind...

As you say you cannot get the Ed Visa papers in time for your extension of stay.

Suggest you press the university for quick URGENT issue of the letter needed...

If not then you will need to get a letter from the university to Thai Immigration that you have ended your study....

Take it to Thai immigration and have them cancel the Ed Visa extension you are on...

And apply for the COVID extension by May 28th.

And then when the university does issue the needed letter you will have to start all over again in getting an Ed Visa.

I've asked many a time for that letter from the Thai Studies Office. I submitted my first request one month ago followed by reminders. However, I only received news this morning from the Thai Studies Office that the International Student Office will only issue the letter next week the earliest. I do not think I can get the cancellation letter on time since it's taking a long time for the International Student Office to issue the visa extension letter. If I'm unable to get the cancellation letter before May 28, can I just go the CW for the COVID extension without the cancellation letter? BTW it's public holiday tomorrow and all correspondence with the uni is via email. Thanks for the help.

and bring all your mails with you and ask the officer what he think is the best , may be he give you under consideration,..if you are lucky

does your University contract not lead much further than May 31? I guess you can use the same documents you used for your first 90-days application, if the date on the documents is carrying you further into this year
