TLDR : Answer Summary
Larry is seeking advice on how to prove his financial situation as he is not keen on depositing money in a Thai bank to meet the requirements for his visa as a foreigner married to a Thai citizen. The conversation reveals that while he doesn't need to show funds for the initial 90-day NON-O visa application made from Canada, he will need to prove he has 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account for a one-year extension in Thailand. Some commenters suggest alternatives and explain the mechanics of the visa system, including that the funds only need to stay in the account for two months prior to the extension application.

Larry Johnson . . whichever way you chose, be aware that for applying to the 90-days Non-O visa inside Thailand you need a Thai bank account with 400,000 THB sitting in it. For applying to the 90-days Non-O visa in Canada, you can use income or money in the bank. . . .and for ANYTHING you apply on Immigration, you need a "Kor Ror 22" a marriage registry document that shows your marriage is registered inside Thailand. If your marrriage is only registered in Canada, you need to have it acknowledged in Thailand, first thing, before anything

You have to have the payments going in to your account for 12 consecutive months.

not for your first Ext. And it is unsure if his immigration office will accept the monthly 45,000 payments.

@Wayne *******
its a crapshoot. You might get lucky and get through, but highly unlikely. Just put the 800k in the bank and forget about it.

@James ***********
you’re correct except you only needs 45K Non O based on marriage to a Thai

I tried to do the income based one, and not keep money in the bank, I dont like banks. But they asked for information and stuff I could not provide. Like a work contract, a W2, letter from employer, over 80k a month in to my account was not enough for me

@James ***********
you will not get your first 12 month extension that way and, if on a marriage Non-O, may never get an extension using that method at many Immigration Offices

As mentioned by Bob, the 400,000 only needs to sit in the bank 2 months, you're free to use it all until 2 months before your next extension.

@Wannikea ********
I thought it was 2 months before, 3 months after then you can use some of it?

@Jeff ************
, actually it's almost 3 months. 2 months+ processing period 21 days. It's safe not to withdraw before the decision for the extension. Thanks.

@Jeff ************
he's talking about a non-o based on marriage not on retirement.
Marco *******
Every 90 day exit the country and apply for a new non O visa. Don’t need money in thai bank account
Bob **********
With the non-o extension based on marriage you only need the money in the bank until your extension is granted or speak with an agent
Deniz **********
Away using Bangkok bank. They can freeze your account. Use others like Kasikorn which is more convenient. When you change sim card, no need to be in the country.

Not keen on depositing money? Is it because you don't have the money? They have agents that will sort that out for you. However, depositing money is part of the rules that everyone has to follow. If you married a Thai and want to move to Thailand you need to understand the rules. No one wants to leave money in the bank but that is the way it is.

the not wanting to deposit cash thing is a symptom of narcissistic personality disorder- they love control and money, so it bothers them. Roughly 50% of the expats are in Thailand NPD, so this guy should fit right in
John *********
@Brad ***********
actually, he doesn’t have to leave B400k in a Thai bank account. He could just pay an agent B50,000 (2,150.00 CAD) to make the bank and Immigration office overlook that detail.

@John ********
bank account are being frozen because of agent giving envelop to immigration officer get up to date on what is happening all over Thailand and the bank account frozen

@John ********
that is not a good idea. If you don’t follow the rules one day you will get caught.

as many are finding out this year. Accounts still being frozen and closed, one of the reasons is they didn't have own money in their account to get visa.

For the 90-day non-O visa from the Thai embassy in Canada, you don't need to show any money in a Thai bank account.

But if you want to apply for the 1-year extension in Thailand, you don't have a choice. The Canadian embassy in Thailand stopped income verification on April 1st of this year. So your only option is proof of 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account in your name only.
