TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a Non-Immigrant O visa, you generally need to show 800,000 THB in your bank account. This amount must be seasoned (held for a certain time) before applying, particularly if you're applying through offices in Jomtien. Some offices may only require the funds to be seasoned at the time of the visa extension rather than at application. It's also suggested to start the process of opening a local bank account once you arrive in Thailand.

You can apply for the retirement non-o after arriving visa exemption, although you have to get your skates on to get a change visa to non--o submitted with 15+days remaining on your stamp. Note you can extend your arrival stamp once 30+ days here in Thailand, to give you a little more time.

Start with opening a bank account once you are here. Use an agent if needed.

Then submit your change of visa....

Thai consulate fees in NZ are V expensive

using an agent is helping a corrupt system.

Yes you need the 800k to apply for the in country Non O. Jomtien want it in 2 months before applying. Most other offices only require seasoned funds at the time of the year extension.

If you apply in NZ you just use your bank statement at home to verify your income/funds min 65K baht a month or 800K baht. The issue is the fee for Non O in NZ. If you come on a 30 days visa exemption you’ll probably need an agent to assist you with opening a bank account to bank the required 800K baht. You’ll need 15-21 days on your stamp to apply for a Non O visa and the fee is 2000 baht. The extension after three months is 1900 baht. To get an agent to open a bank account is normally 3500-5000 baht. If you get a Non O at home you can open an account yourself.

You’ll need to check with the Thai embassy there. Expensive to do there. Cheaper coming in exempt and doing here.
