TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has a Non-O retirement visa that expired while they were in the UK and has returned to Thailand on a 90-day Non-O visa. They are seeking to apply for a one-year extension based on marriage to a Thai spouse instead of locking up 400,000 baht in a bank account. Replies indicate that paperwork requirements may vary by immigration office, and the user is advised to check their visa for any retirement notations that may affect eligibility for the marriage-based extension. It’s recommended to gather documentation directly from the Jomtien immigration office before applying.

I did find this as a list of what is required for an extension based on marriage.

It might OR might not be accurate for your office πŸ˜• That's the down side of lists like these πŸ™

Thanks,When I applied several years ago,the lady at Jomtien said"To many problem with marriage visa, easier for retirement".We got married in the UK so to go through the hassle of getting the certificate from the amphur etc.I think I'll stick to origanal plan of retirement, but will ask at Immigration.

If you were married in the UK,
@Tony ********
you would have to get the marriage certificate certified back in the UK at Milton Keynes and the thai consulate in london, then have to get it registered at an amphur here so you could get the Kor Ror 22 form (thai married abroad).

BUT

don't let a lazy immigration officer dissuade you from getting the extension you want just because they wanna skate thru their job rather than actually do it πŸ˜›

Thanks, first money is no problem,800k in the bank for 5 years.Checked my e-visa,no mention of over 50/retirement,in visa conditions have a "-".

you're good and should be able to apply for the year extension for marriage without any issues then.

You need to look on the visa and see if it says "retirement" on it because if you got that 90 day Non-O based on being over 50 it might be noted it was for retirement and that means the first yearly extension you get on it can't be for any other reason except retirement <- meaning you'd meet the 800K baht banked money method.

NOW if there is no notation on the visa sticker (or the eVisa PDF paper you showed to get into the country) you COULD apply for a year extension based on marriage to a thai.

However because there are over 70 immigration offices in the country your best course of action is for you and your thai wife to slog on over to the immigration office at Jomtien and get the hand out listing exactly what's required document wise to get a yearly extension based on marriage.

OR

Post in a pattaya group to see what someone says there. I would just make the trip to the office with your wife and hash it out BEFORE you go to apply so you know what you need and don't have to make multiple trips to get it done.

- I think it's excellent advice to go to the specific office and ask.

It made my extension by marriage quick and completely stress free.

You still will need to meet the financial requirements of the one year extension of stay...
