TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a marriage extension visa in Thailand, you need to show a balance of 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account in your name, which must be deposited at least two months before your first application and three months before subsequent applications. A loan is acceptable as a source for this amount, and the funds do not need to be transferred from abroad. You will need a letter from the bank, which should be issued no more than 7 days before your application, and an updated bank book on the same day of the application. Additionally, it's advisable to get an updated Kor Ror 2 (marriage registration copy) from your local amphur, confirming that you are still married. No witnesses are required at the immigration office for this process.

What is Kor Ror 2?

a sample, note at the top right kor ror 2 marking

Khor ror 2 is a dated copy of the marriage registration. Immigration wants a new one each year as it confirms you are still married. It costs 10THB to 20 THB. You can get them at your local amphur office.

Benjamin Hays Khor ror 2 I never updated in 6 years. Will get a new one soon for some reason, but CW never asked new copy each year from me...

...personally we’ve always just copied our original Khor certs for the past 7 years , Never knew anything about needing a new one each year from your local ampur .

No need to be transferred from abroad, a loan will do but the 400K has to be deposited at least 2 months before the first application and 3 months before the second. You need both a letter from the bank (can be a few days old) and the bank book (updated same day of the application). Kor Ror 2 better be recent. Witness you will need at your home the day of the visit. Get an updated list of requirements from the immigration before starting the process because they do change sometimes.

alright, thanks. I wasn't too sure because of conflicting info. I never go below anyway to be safe.

@Al ****
AFAIR, 3 months are for retirement extensions

@Krzysztof ********
right, that's a bit of confusion because of that

Before each next application it's also 2 months, not 3 (for marriage extension)

Thank you! Is there possible a kasikorn branch at chaengwattana or a kbank atm for update the bankbook?

@Johan **********
Chaengwattana has a Kasikorn branch downstairs where you can update your bankbook.

I would add, that when you update your bank book, if done too early, it will show the previous day's date. Happened to me and I needed to go downstairs and do again.

if you are applying for a year extension based on marriage to a thai you don't have to show where the 400K baht came from only that it is in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for the extension.

You need a letter from the bank (Chaengwattana accepts them not older than 7 days before you apply) AND you need to update the bank book on the date you apply for the extension.

Depending on how old your Kor Ror 2 is you might just want to stop by any Amphur and get it printed again.

There is no witness required at Chaengwattana when you apply for a marriage extension .
